Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus (VWCO) started mass production of its first all-electric truck in Brazil on Monday. After a comprehensive test period, VWCO manufactures the e-Delivery distribution truck in the Brazilian city of Resende and is initially preparing 1,000 to 3,000 units per year.

The Volkswagen e-Delivery electric truck is intended for urban distribution and is due to hit the market in July. So far, the Ambev brewery is known as a loyal customer. Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus (Volkswagen Trucks and Buses) plans to announce further customers for the market launch.

The e-Delivery truck receives batteries from CATL via the Brazilian importer Moura. According to a newer report, new cell-to-pack technology is used in the batteries: the cells are integrated directly into the battery pack. So far, the cells have first been built into modules (for example 12 cells in one module), the modules in turn are combined to form complete battery packs. The intermediate step of the modules should be eliminated with the new technology and with it some components.

To keep the delivery routes short, Moura has installed a presence at the plant in Resende. Volkswagen Trucks and Buses (VWCO) has been using this model called Consórcio Modular for a long time: nine companies and VWCO share responsibility for the manufacture of vehicles within the plant, including Maxion (chassis and wheels), Meritor (metal suspensions and axles), Powertrain (engines) and Kroschu (Interior work). With Moura's entry into this system, the principle is to be extended to the brand's e-trucks under the catchphrase e-Consórcio. In cooperation with CATL, Moura will be responsible for various processes related to electromobility, such as the assembly, parameterization and testing of the electrical systems of the e-Delivery, according to an accompanying press release.

"The production of the e-Delivery marks the beginning of vehicular electrification in Brazil in a structured way and Moura is very proud to be part of this process together with VWCO. Moura has always been in the vanguard, developing solutions in batteries that could meet the most advanced demands, such as the e-Consórcio. Once again, we are part of the epicentre of the innovation movement of the automotive sector by signing this important partnership with VWCO and CATL", states Sérgio Moura, president of the Board of Directors of Moura Accumulators.

During these first 5 months of the year, Volkswagen Trucks and Buses maintained excellent sales results, reaching a growth of 58% in total sales so far in 2021 vs 2020. The trucks segment is dominated by the Delivery trucks models. @via Volkswagen Trucks and Buses.
