Keolis, the public transport operator has put into operation in the far southwest of France, an electric bus line with ten electric articulated buses. The twelve-kilometer line with 30 stations connects Bayonne with Biarritz.
A second e-bus line, which connects Bayonne with Tarnos, will be inaugurated in the coming year with eight other electric busses. Keolis already has experience with the articulated buses of the Spanish manufacturer, Irizar. On May 2019, the public transport operator had already integrated 43 E-buses from Irizar in the northern French city of Amiens into its fleet.
The journey from Bayonne to Biarritz should take around 30 minutes. Very pleasant: The buses leave every 12 minutes during the day - from 5:30 to 0:30 on weekdays, and even until 2:30 from Thursday to Saturday.
Should there be any delays, the passengers at the 30 stations will be informed in real-time via a display system.
Irizar's 18-meter-long articulated buses, of which eight are to be used on the second line to Tarnos, have 150 seats, some of which are prepared for passengers with reduced mobility. With a pantograph, the buses can be charged quickly within five minutes; alternatively, the slower charge takes between three and four hours at night in the depot.
Currently, the Keolis depot in Bayonne is being prepared for the loading and maintenance of buses, and according to the report, 110 employees have already been trained to operate the new e-buses.
