LION Smart and Vicinity Motor Corp increase their collaboration. The LION Smart battery specialist has received a follow-up order from the Canadian manufacturer Vicinity Motor for the integration of a customer-specific battery system solution. The total order volume for the electrification of additional vehicles comprises a total of 80 battery packs. The value of the order is in the upper six-digit range. Last year, Lion Smart had already received its first order to electrify a bus model from Vicinity.

As part of the new order, Lion Smart is to deliver 400-volt BMW battery packs and to use them in a shuttle/transit bus model from Vicinity Motor Corp. integrate. The order also includes a plug-and-play solution for integrating battery packs.

Lion Smart received an order for engineering services in the area of ​​development and integration at the end of last year. The Canadian manufacturer hired the battery specialist to check whether the battery pack solution could be integrated into its Vicinity bus model. The contract provided for tasks in the areas of software as well as the mechanical and electrical adaptation and the integration of several 400-volt battery packs from the BMW i3 into a demo bus model.

Vicinity Motor Corp. in Aldergrove, British Columbia, specializes in mid-size commercial vehicles for public and private companies. The Vicinity Lightning is the company's only electric bus until now. The Vicinity Lightning electric bus is 8.6 meters long and 2.5 meters wide. The company specifies the power of the engine as 220 kW, the storage capacity of the batteries is 252 kWh, and the vehicle has a range of up to 300 kilometres. With a DC quick charge, the electric bus should be able to be fully charged in 1.5 hours.

LION Smart GmbH is a subsidiary of Lion E-Mobility AG, founded in 2011, a listed Swiss holding company with a focus on strategic investments in the electromobility sector. As a developer of battery packs and battery management systems for the group, Lion Smart has an in-house developed modular light battery system in its range. The company maintains close ties to BMW and implements the integration of battery solutions for third parties based on batteries and modules from the BMW i3. Lion Smart recently had its battery solutions adapted and certified for the maritime sector.
