The new Opel Rocks-e aspires to be a micro-mobile for inner-city traffic by being a small, two-seater, fully electric vehicle. The little cube will hit the market at the end of the year, although Opel has not announced pricing. Nevertheless, this should be on par with the group's sister model, the Citroen Ami, which starts at roughly 7,000 euros in France.

The 2.41-meter-long two-seater is categorized as a light electric vehicle rather than an automobile. The criteria for this class state that the cars must not weigh more than 425 kilograms (without batteries), have an electric engine that produces no more than 8.2 hp, and have a top speed of 45 km/h. In addition, airbags, ABS, ESP, and other safety features found in automobiles are not necessary and, as a result, are not installed.

The new Opel Rocks-e electric vehicle is propelled by an electric motor, which exhausts the permitted output of 8.2 hp. The battery under the passenger seat stores a maximum of 5.5 kWh. For comparison: The battery in the Opel Corsa-e is 50 kWh. The maximum range is correspondingly short: 75 kilometers.

The 3-meter long charging cable is firmly connected to the vehicle and is located in the frame of the rear B-pillar. Therefore, it can be easily pulled out and stowed away again after use. The Rocks-e can be plugged into a household socket to draw electricity via a Schuko plug with a maximum charging capacity of 2 kW. The battery is fully charged in around 3.5 hours. Alternatively, there will also be an adapter to tap public charging stations via a Type 2 / Mennekes plug at an additional cost. However, this does not increase the charging capacity.

Technically, the Citroen Ami and Opel Rocks-e are almost identical. The Opel Rocks-e, like its French twin Citroen Ami, stands on 14-inch wheels and looks adorable. The compact electric model is made up of only 250 separate pieces to cut production costs. As a result, many parts are used multiple times.

Opel Rocks-e introduces the Opel Vizor, the brand's new face, with LED headlights and front indicators. The two seats are offset in the passenger compartment to leave the passenger plenty of legroom, while the driver can move the seat in the longitudinal direction. Despite its compact size, the new Opel Rocks-e features a luggage compartment of up to 63 liters in the passenger footwell and an intelligent hook for an XXL-sized shopping bag. In addition, Opel Rocks-e drivers enjoy exceptional vision thanks to its small proportions and big window.

Because of its restricted range, low top speed, and small size, the Rocks-e is best suited for usage in urban environments. Delivery services are projected to be the most important clients. Remember, a Citroen My Ami Cargo version is now available. A storage box is installed here instead of the front passenger seat. This option should also come for the Opel Rocks-e.

The new Opel Rocks-e is excellent for the conscience and good for the environment because it is entirely electric, has no emissions, and is virtually silent. via Opel website.
