Is making an electric car on rails truly an exaggerated efficiency exercise? Apparently, it's not. In fact, in Sweden, some engineering students at the University of Dalarna have created Eximus IV, the first electric car on rails with an efficiency that would allow it to travel over 17000 km with the equivalent of a litre of petrol.
The Delsbo Electric competition involves driving a distance of about 3.36 km with as little energy consumption as possible, expressed in Wh / person / km. To get the final result, the total energy consumption is divided by the number of passengers.
On Saturday 17/10, the competition was decided in Delsbo. The winner was the alumni team with Eximus IV which consists of Björn Ferm, Ricky Olars, Peter Hagfalk, Simon Axelsson and Morgan Wilhelmsson. Eximus IV broke its own world record from 2019! The new world record is now 0.47 Wh / person / kilometre.
Dalarna University also took second place with Eximus V, which was also awarded the innovation award for its autonomous control system. Eximus V was built by Gustav Wanke ( Mechanical Engineer), Edgar Bonnevie ( IT security), Daniel Olsson (Energy Engineering) and four students from Soltorgsgymnasiet Marcus Malm, Astrid Zickerman Bexell, Nilo Jiang and Nell Bjorklund.
The Eximus project is funded by Borlänge municipality, Dalarna University and Dalarna Region.
