Renault has presented the new update of its Mégane model, which is manufactured in the factory that the company has in Palencia, and that will be available in Spain from this summer with a plug-in hybrid drive called E-Tech.

The PHEV drive consists of a 1.6-litre petrol engine, two electric motors and a multi-mode transmission, which together develop 160 horsepower.

The efficiency must also be great because the electric range in the WLTP cycle of 50 kilometres (in the city cycle of the WLTP even 65 kilometres) has to be managed with only 9.8 kWh. However, the manufacturer does not indicate whether this value is the net or gross capacity of the high-voltage battery. The Mégane E-Tech should be able to drive at speeds of up to 135 km / h purely electrically.

Renault does not provide any information on the charging options and the charging performance of the PHEV. On the published photos you can only see that the charging socket is located above the right rear wheel, the fuel filler neck is located above the left rear wheel.

In addition to the partially electric drive, smaller elements in the design were changed as part of the facelift, and the cockpit was also modernized. The latest version of the French “Easy Link” multimedia system is now available here. In addition, new assistants up to an autonomous level 2 system are now being offered.

At the market launch in summer 2020, the plug-in hybrid will only be available in the estate version called Grandtour, according to Renault the hatchback version will follow "at a later date". The prices for both variants are not yet known.

"The New Mégane E-TECH Plug-in thus proves its versatility. It can operate without consuming fuel on everyday journeys and is perfect for long journeys on weekends or for holidays. Whatever the battery charge status, the New Mégane E-TECH Plug-in benefits from the major advantages of the E-TECH hybrid system: the systematic use of the electric motor when starting up for improved responsiveness and reduced fuel consumption." @via Renault cars.
