Opel does not often gratify fans with updates of the popular Corsa model - the fifth generation was introduced in 2014, the fourth - eight years before. The new modification of the model was created with the understanding that the future belongs to electric cars.

Opel becomes electric. With the new sixth generation of the Corsa, the German manufacturer offers for the first time a 100% electric version with a range of 330 kilometers (WLTP). The Opel Corsa is an absolute bestseller: since its world debut in 1982, more than 13.6 million units have been manufactured.

The small car, of which Opel now also shows first pictures, is based as the Peugeot e-208 and the DS 3 Crossback E-Tense on the e-CMP platform, the foundation for pure e-vehicles in the B and C segment sets.

The Corsa-e comes equipped with a 50 kWh battery. Thanks to the power of 136 HP (100 kW) and the maximum instantaneous torque of 260 Nm, stand out the responsiveness, agility and dynamic behavior. In 8.1 seconds it goes from 0 to 100 km / h and only needs 2.8 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 50 km / h. Up to 330 kilometers to WLTP should be possible. The liquid-cooled battery mounted in the vehicle floor can be recharged at an AC charging station in around five hours.

The 50 kWh battery can be charged quickly up to 80% of its capacity in 30 minutes. The Corsa-e is prepared for all charging options - cable, wall charging point or high-speed charging - and the battery is covered by an eight-year warranty. The load status can be verified with "myOpel" app, and thus be able to optimize the loading times and costs at all times.

In addition, the driver can adapt the autonomy, since he can choose between three driving modes: Normal, Eco and Sport. The Sport mode increases responsiveness and driving dynamics, with a moderate loss of autonomy. In the Eco mode, the Corsa-e becomes a long-distance runner, with a significant increase in autonomy that hardly affects comfort.

The dimensions of the electric version of the Corsa remained virtually unchanged compared to previous generations, and while maintaining the internal height of the passenger compartment, the overall height of the car decreased by 48 mm, which allows the driver to feel now 28 mm lower. For the first time in the compact car segment, Opel installed IntelliLux “smart” matrix LED headlights.

Inside, the manufacturer installed a fully digital dashboard with a 7 ”or 10” infotainment system (the Navi Multimedia system incorporates a 7-inch touch screen, while the top-of-the-range Multimedia Navi Pro system has a 10-inch touch screen, with Opel Connect telematics service, and navigation with real-time traffic information, direct connection to roadside assistance and emergency calls.).

The Opel Corsa-e electric car will go on sale in the coming weeks, and then its price will be announced.
