Volkswagen's ID electric car lineup continues to venture into uncharted territory. After experimenting with a hatchback and a couple of SUVs, Volkswagen introduced the ID.5, a vehicle that aims for the trend of the SUV coupe, and it was born as a direct offshoot of the ID.4. The new Volkswagen ID.5 is simply an ID.4 with a more athletic appearance. Volkswagen wants to place its new vehicle among consumers looking for an SUV that isn't traditional and has a more sporty appearance.

The new Volkswagen ID.5 GTX is the most attractive and powerful of the various setups. Volkswagen is launching sports variants of its electric models under this title. In the case of the ID.5, it is embodied with two electric motors, one of 109 hp on the front axle and the other of 204 hp on the rear axle, to generate a total of 300 hp and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds.

The Volkswagen ID.5 is also available in Pro and Pro Performance trim levels. The first and most affordable uses a single 174 hp, 310 Nm rear-axle motor; the second increases the power to 204 hp and 310 Nm. A 77 kWh battery is utilized in both models, which provides 520 km of autonomy (WLTP). The Volkswagen ID.5 GTX model has a range of 480 kilometers.

The new Volkswagen ID.5 electric SUV coupe shares the interior, the electric engines, and technology with the ID.4. We shall discover a simple environment with hi-tech flashes as ambient lighting that offers feedback when activating voice commands, complementing the browser's instructions and indicating charge levels. There will also be a head-up display, virtual assistants, and a multitude of touch controls.

The new coupe design and lounge-like interior are inextricably linked. Despite its coupe-like appearance, the new Volkswagen ID.5 electric SUV offers just 12 mm less back headroom than the Volkswagen ID.4. The long wheelbase of 2766 mm gives the same space conditions in the interior as a substantially bigger SUV, and the trunk size of 549 liters is not compromised. The inside is fashionable, athletic, and unique.

The cutting-edge digital cockpit is built on a simple and user-friendly operating concept. The 5.3-inch driver display and the 12-inch touch screen infotainment system have high quality and provide clean and clear images. There is also an option for an augmented reality head-up display, displaying information in the driver's field of view on the windscreen.

The new software version ID.Software 3.0 enables "over the air" updates and the activation of new functionalities, ensuring that ID.5 remains current for many years to come. Innovative support systems, such as Travel Assist with collective data, provide for an even more calm driving experience because the system anticipates traffic conditions further along the road. The new Park Assist Plus with memory function can take over the driving and complete parking maneuvers if the driver desires. In addition, We Connect systems give real-time online traffic information, online map updating, charging station details, network radio, and additional features to drivers.

Volkswagen enhances safety to a new level with the Car2X connectivity system. Data from compatible Volkswagen automobiles and infrastructure signals within a radius of up to 800 meters may be read out locally in fractions of a second and warn of dangerous spots, accidents, and stalled traffic.

The German car manufacturer has not disclosed the start date or pricing of the Volkswagen ID.5 electric SUV, although the first units are likely to be available in Europe in early 2022. Volkswagen has no plans to sell this model in the United States. @via VW.
