Volvo started production of Polestar 2 at the factory owned by the Chinese Geely Group in Luqiao, China.

Polestar, a brand owned by Volvo, has started production of the Polestar 2 electric sedan. The new model will be a direct rival to the Tesla Model 3. The production unit is owned by Geely Group, the owner of Volvo and Polestar brands.

Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO, said that the production started under special conditions, with a greater focus on the health and safety of the employees.

Deliveries of the new Polestar 2 will begin this summer, market-by-market, starting in Europe and then in China and North America.

Polestar 2 uses two electric motors that offer a combined 300 kW (408 hp) and a maximum torque of 660 Nm. The electric motors are powered by a 78 kWh battery that offers a range of 500 km. Polestar 2 uses the CMA platform.

In order to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h, Polestar 2 needs 5 seconds.

The Polestar 2's multimedia system, with an 11-inch touchscreen, uses an Android operating system with integrated Google services such as Google Maps, Google Assistant or Google Play Store, in addition to natural voice recognition.

Currently, the reservations are open in ten markets after a deposit of 1,000 refundable euros. More configurations will gradually be enabled around the world. Polestar 2's starting prices in some markets are already known:

  • 59,800 euros in Belgium and the Netherlands.
  • 58,800 euros in Germany.
  • £ 49,900 in the UK.
  • 469,000 crowns (39,000 euros) in Norway
  • 659,000 crowns (59,392 euros) in Sweden .
  • $ 63,000 in the US.

The Polestar 3 electric SUV is now expected to arrive around 2022.
