Opel has only recently announced the return of the GSe sub-brand as an electric and exciting addition to the company's current lineup of vehicles. The Opel Astra GSe plug-in hybrid and Opel Astra Sports Tourer GSe are the first GSe models released by the German automaker.

The five-door hatchback and station wagon styles of the Opel Astra GSe can only be had as plug-in hybrids, with the latter housing a 1.6-liter gasoline engine producing 180 hp and an electric motor producing 110 hp (both mounted at the front of the vehicle). The new Opel Astra GSe plug-in hybrid can achieve a maximum system power of 165 kW/225 hp and a maximum torque of 360 Nm while emitting as little as 25 grams of CO 2 per 100 kilometers.

The new Opel Astra GSe plug-in hybrid is more energetic and athletic than previous Astra plug-in hybrid models. Among the changes made are lowering the chassis by 10 millimeters, a more direct steering setup, and a more responsive braking system. Oil-pressure shock absorbers provide a dynamic and stable undercarriage, and the car's revised and stiffer front and rear suspension complement this. The KONI FSD (Frequency Selective Damping) technology built into the shocks allows for them to have distinct high-frequency (suspension control) and low-frequency (body control) characteristics (body control). Finally, ESP has been modified to be more forgiving of aggressive driving.

The redesigned Vizor front of the latest generation Astra, which takes design cues from the Opel Manta of the 1970s, connects it stylistically to earlier Opel models. Inspired by last year's Opel Manta GSe electric concept, the new Opel Astra GSe has 18-inch lightweight alloy wheels built on the brand's rich heritage. In addition to a revised front fascia and GSe emblem on the trunk, the cabin of the new Opel Astra GSe has Alcantara front seats that have been certified by the Automotive Group for Quality (AGR) to provide the most remarkable degree of ergonomics and comfort.

GSe used to mean "Grand Sport Einspritzung" (Grand Sport Injection), as seen on the Opel Commodore GS/E and the Opel Monza GSE. The Grand Sport Electric (GSe) is the new sub-brand for Opel's top-tier electric vehicles. The GSe lineup must reflect the electric age's spirit without sacrificing fun behind the wheel.
