Opel continues its offensive in the electric car segment with a new premiere - this time the Germans have prepared a 100% electric version for the Zafira minivan.

Opel has released the first images and details regarding the new Zafira-e Life, the electric version of the passenger van developed on the same platform as the Citroen e-SpaceTourer and Peugeot e-Traveler.

The new Opel Zafira e-Life will be equipped with an electric motor with a power of 100 kW (136 horsepower) and 260 Nm. The top speed will be limited to 130 km / h.

A battery pack with a capacity of 75 kWh is available for a range of up to 330 kilometres and a battery with 50 kWh for 230 kilometres in accordance with the WLTP standard.

The biggest advantage of the new Zafira-e Life compared to the Vivaro-e electric van is the ability to carry up to 9 people on board.

Buyers can choose from three lengths:

- The short Zafira-e Life "Small", available from early 2021, has space for up to nine passengers.

- The "Medium" variant has a 35 centimetre longer wheelbase (3.28 meters), which allows more foot space for the rear passengers.

- The 5.30-meter long Zafira-e Life "Large" with a 3.28-meter wheelbase has a maximum loading volume of around 4500 litres.

The Zafira-e Life can charge at home, on public quick chargers or via conventional sockets. On a quick charging station with 100 kW direct current, the 50 kWh battery can be refreshed 80 per cent in 30 minutes; the large 75 kWh battery takes 45 minutes.

According to Opel officials, sales of the new Opel Zafira-e Life will start this summer. Opel will provide details of the price of the Zafira-e Life at a later date.
