This December, the Nissan LEAF, the first 100% electric vehicle launched on the general market, celebrates its 10th anniversary. The first-generation of Nissan LEAF sold nearly 300,000 units in 49 countries. Until now, there are more than 500,000 units of this car that the Japanese brand has managed to sell around the world. In the ten years that this car has been on the market, Nissan LEAF owners have avoided the emission of nearly 2.5 million tons of CO2 per year. It would take around 100 million trees to remove that much carbon dioxide from our atmosphere.
Now on sale is the new 2021 Nissan LEAF, an electric car that is updated to add more safety equipment, integrated WiFi and a digital interior rear-view mirror. With discounts from the brand and governmental aid, it starts from around 29,000 euros, but its recommended retail price before aid and discounts starts from 35,620 euros.
The new 2021 Nissan LEAF incorporates technological improvements in both the 40 kWh and 62 kWh models. Therefore, the Intelligent Blind Spot Intervention system (activates the brakes automatically to avoid a collision with lane changing by recognising cars in the blind spot) is now included as standard on all trim levels. Also, the 2021 Nissan LEAF includes monitoring and control functions through the NissanConnect Services smartphone application, with which users can lock and unlock the doors and configure smart alerts from their mobile.
The new 2021 Nissan LEAF Tekna (the top-of-the-range finish) add adds to its equipment an intelligent digital rear-view mirror that gives the driver with a digital image via an LCD screen integrated into the mirror. The images are transmitted from a high-resolution camera installed at the rear of the car, so that a full rear view can be obtained, without interference, for example, from the rear headrests.
Customers can now also enjoy the incorporation of an integrated WiFi connection to enjoy additional services thanks to a data connection offered by Orange. There will be four different data plans, thanks to which you will be able to access digital content such as streaming video playback, navigation information or simply high-speed downloads.
Production of the model began in mid-November and sales from December 1. The cheapest Nissan electric car model, the LEAF Acenta with a 40 kWh battery, 150 hp engine and 270 km of autonomy, starts from around 25,000 euros.
