Renault has introduced the new Clio E-Tech, the hybrid version of its popular Clio, at Brussels Motor Show.

The new Renault Clio E-Tech has as its main engine a 1.6 petrol engine, which is combined with two other electric motors. The total power of the car is 140 hp,  thanks to which it can do 80-120km / h in just 6.9 seconds.

The Clio E-Tech mounts a 1.2 kWh lithium-ion battery that operates at 230 V, located under the boot, which allows it to circulate fully electrically at speeds of up to 75 km / h for short periods of time. According to Renault, in the city, it is possible to drive in electric mode 80% of the time, so that fuel consumption can be reduced by up to forty percent compared to a petrol Clio.

As in any conventional hybrid, the operation of the hybrid system is fully automatic; The car decides how to use hybrid mechanics at all times based on the needs of acceleration and power.

The car has an energy recovery system,  a technology that benefits from Renault's know-how in Formula 1.

The Clio E-Tech hybrid only weighs 10 kilos more than a Clio dCi of 115 horses.

At the aesthetic level, the changes are minor.

By 2022, Renault plans to extend its electric range with eight fully electric models and 12 electrified models (hybrid and plug-in hybrids).
