Ford targets trades, fleets, and delivery operators with its updated 2026 Ford E-Transit Custom AWD. The company adds more range, quicker charging, stronger traction, and a wider engine lineup. The upgrades address daily pain points for operators who need consistent uptime, predictable running costs, and reliable winter traction. The data confirms the strategy.

Longer Range and Faster Charging for Daily Use

Ford increases usable battery capacity from 64 kWh to 71 kWh. The change pushes the electric range to up to 230 miles. That figure targets local fleets that run fixed urban routes.

Charging speed rises as well. Ford cuts the 10–80 percent window to 29 minutes. That window drops roughly 10 minutes from the previous setup. Operators who need a quick top-up get 69 miles from just 10 minutes on a high-power charger.

Owners of the current van see gains too. Ford plans an OTA update that shortens the same charge window on the 64 kWh pack to 25 minutes. That reduces downtime for thousands of vans already in service.

New AWD System Targets Harsh Weather

The AWD upgrade arrives across multiple trims and body types. Ford offers three outputs: 136 hp, 218 hp, and 286 hp. The top motor comes only on Sport and MS-RT models.

The new AWD system uses two independent electric motors. Each motor controls one axle. The system checks wheel slip up to 50 times per second and shifts torque to the axle that needs it. Ford positions this as a winter-focused gain for operators who drive on ice or unpaved work sites. The van’s logic system blends motor torque and wheel braking to keep the van tracking straight on mixed surfaces.

The total wheel torque reaches 630 Nm on the 286 hp version. That output offers more than 50 percent extra torque compared to the RWD setup. Steep starts with full payloads get easier and faster.

Towing, Payload, and Practical Use

The upgraded structure maintains the 2,300 kg (5,071 lb) towing rating on AWD models. Operators who tow generators, small excavators, or trailers get the same rating as RWD owners.

The cargo area remains unchanged. The van supports:

  • Up to 6.8 m³ of cargo volume
  • Up to 3.45 m load length
  • Multiple body types, including panel van, double-cab, Kombi, and E-Tourneo Custom

Ford adds Pro Power Onboard with 2.3 kW output from the main battery. Crews can run 230V tools directly from the van. That reduces the need for small generators and cuts fuel use in remote areas.

Standard heat-pump hardware supports cold-weather efficiency. The system adds up to 10 percent more range during freezing temperatures. That gain reduces winter planning complexity for fleet dispatchers.

Trim Levels, Body Choices, and Motor Options

Ford spreads the AWD system across nearly the entire range. Operators can choose from:

  • Trend
  • Limited
  • Proff+
  • Trail
  • Sport
  • MS-RT

The 286 hp motor remains exclusive to Sport and MS-RT. The E-Tourneo Custom AWD arrives in Active and Titanium X, with 218 hp or 286 hp output.

This broad list targets commercial buyers who want a single platform across all departments. The line includes vans for cargo, shuttles for staff transport, and premium versions for client transfer duties.

Pricing for the Updated Range

AWD adds about 1,900 USD over an equivalent RWD model. That keeps the price jump manageable for value-driven operators.

A Trend AWD with 136 hp starts at 52,000 USD before tax. That price includes:

  • A three-year / 45,000 km service plan
  • Annual condition checks
  • Twelve months of Ford Telematics access
  • An electronic logbook

Ford uses these service features to lower fleet management overhead.

Driving Behavior and Safety Systems

The van uses independent motor control, wheel-specific braking, and continuous torque adjustment. The goal is consistent grip during ice, slush, or gravel transitions.

Key traction features include:

  • Enhanced stability through wheel-by-wheel brake control
  • Logic-driven torque blending during steering input
