Lancia, the legendary Italian brand, has unveiled its new Ypsilon, a compact hatchback that combines style, technology, and sustainability. The new Ypsilon is the first model of Lancia’s revival plan, which aims to reposition the brand as a premium and innovative player in the European market. The new Ypsilon is also the first electric vehicle in Lancia’s history, offering a zero-emission driving experience with a range of up to 250 miles.
The Design: A Tribute to Lancia’s Heritage
The new Ypsilon is based on the same platform as the Peugeot 208 and the Opel Corsa, but it has a distinctive and elegant design that reflects Lancia’s identity and heritage. The front end features a unique illuminated grille resembling a goblet, symbolizing Italian lifestyle and culture. Polygonal headlights flank the grille, mounted lower than usual on the bumper, creating a dynamic and expressive look.
The side profile is characterized by glossy black accents on the wheel arches, the side mirrors, and the rear pillar, where the Lancia shield is also displayed. The rear pillar also hides the rear door handles, giving the car a coupe-like appearance. The rear end is inspired by the iconic Lancia Stratos, with circular taillights that echo the shape of the front grille. The LANCIA name is proudly spelled out on the tailgate, while the Ypsilon logo is placed on the lower right corner.
The new Lancia Ypsilon is available in a range of 10 colors, including the classic Lancia blue and the new Cassina red, named after the Italian furniture brand that collaborated with Lancia on the interior design. The car is also offered in a limited edition called Cassina, which is limited to 1,906 units, a reference to the year Lancia was founded. The Cassina edition features a velvet roof, a chrome-plated grille, and a numbered plaque on the dashboard.

The interior of the new Ypsilon is designed to be a cozy and sophisticated living room where the driver and the passengers can enjoy a comfortable and relaxing ride. The Technology: A Smart and Sustainable Mobility Solution
The 2024 Lancia Ypsilon is not only stylish and comfortable but also smart and sustainable. The new Ypsilon is the first electric vehicle in Lancia’s history, and it uses the same electric motor and battery pack as the Peugeot e-208 and the Opel e-Corsa. The electric motor delivers 154 horsepower and 260 Newton-meters of torque, allowing the car to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 8.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 93 mph. The battery pack has a capacity of 51 kWh, and provides a range of up to 250 miles in the WLTP combined cycle. The battery can be recharged using a wall box, a public charger, or a fast charger. The wall box can recharge the battery from 0 to 100% in 7.5 hours, the public charger can do it in 5 hours, and the fast charger can do it in 30 minutes.
The new Ypsilon also has a range of driving modes that can adapt the performance and efficiency of the car to different situations. The driving modes are Eco, Normal, and Sport. The Eco mode reduces the power and torque of the motor and optimizes the energy consumption of the systems. The Normal mode provides a balanced performance and efficiency and is suitable for everyday driving.
