On October 16, Volvo introduced the XC40 Recharge - the first full-fledged electric car of the Swedish brand.
As expected, the crossover SUV received an all-wheel-drive transmission, providing a range of 400 km on a single charge. It is built on a dedicated modular platform that relies on a fully electric powertrain.
Volvo XC40 Recharge was created on the basis of the compact crossover bestseller Volvo XC40. This is the first representative of a new family of all-electric Volvo cars. The company says that the novelty represents the most important stage in the history of Volvo Cars: the first electric car made by Volvo and the first Volvo with the latest multimedia system based on the Android operating system.
Over the next five years, Volvo Cars will launch a new electric car every year. The company expects that by 2025 more than half of the total sales will be electric cars.
The new Volvo electric car received a 78-kilowatt battery, providing a range of up to 400 km (according to the international driving cycle WLTP), four-wheel drive with a total capacity of 300 kW (one 150-kilowatt motor on each axis), an onboard charger with a capacity of 11 kW and the ability to replenish the energy reserve from fast-charging stations with a capacity of 150 kW (80% in 40 minutes). The maximum crossover speed is 180 km / h, it can accelerate to 100 km / h in 4.7 seconds.

Volvo Cars expects substantial demand for Recharge cars and will triple the production of electrified cars to meet it. Volvo Cars want plug-in hybrids to make up 20% of sales in 2020. Volvo Cars is the only carmaker on the market to offer a plug-in hybrid option for each vehicle in its lineup.
In Europe, the Volvo XC40 Recharge electric car should go on sale in 2020. It is expected that the price of the Volvo XC40 Recharge will start from about 50.000 euros.
