Volvo Trucks has started delivering the first fully electric trucks. It is a garbage truck for the waste and recycling company Renova and a distributor truck for the Schenker service provider TGM operating in Sweden.
The electric trucks are part of a pilot series developed in cooperation with VIP customers. The series production of the two models Volvo FL Electric and Volvo FE Electric will begin in the second half of 2019.
The Volvo FL Electric is designed for urban delivery or municipal services such as waste management. The electric truck has an output of 185 kW maximum and 130 kW continuous power. The 16-ton truck is powered by two to six lithium-ion battery packs, each with 50 kWh of energy. This should ensure ranges of 100 to 300 kilometers. The battery packs can also be recharged by DC fast charging up to 150 kW in one to two hours.
The Volvo FE Electric, on the other hand, is a 27-tonne. This is powered by two electric motors with 370 kW maximum and 260 kW continuous power. The range should be up to 200 kilometers.
