The Hyundai IONIQ 5 was named the 2022 World Electric Vehicle of the Year

IONIQ 5 is the first model in Hyundai's IONIQ electric vehicle lineup. The vehicle uses the ground-breaking electric vehicle architecture E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform), including 800V charging technology for lightning-fast charging. Additionally, the platform provides IONIQ 5 with colossal room and versatility, owing to features such as a three-meter wheelbase. With rear-wheel drive and the new 77.4 kWh battery pack available starting with the 2023 Hyundai IONIQ 5, the electric car is predicted to have a range of more than 500 kilometers. As with previous generations, the automobile has innovative technology such as Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), cutting-edge safety and driver support systems, and connected solutions that deliver an unparalleled onboard experience.

Hyundai is undertaking a complete transition from a traditional automobile manufacturer to a supplier of intelligent mobility. The firm is advancing its electrification plan to become the world's top electric vehicle producer. By 2023, Hyundai wants to offer 17 all-electric vehicles, including those from the premium brand Genesis. The business expects to sell 1.87 million electrified cars in the same year.

The IONIQ 5 is ushering in a new design age for Hyundai, characterized by what the designers call «Parametric Dynamics,» in which energetic and sharp forms define the electric car's visual identity. The distinctive crossover's exterior design is characterized by clean, crisp lines that transmit the vehicle's dynamic presence on the road and parametric pixel lighting that creates a memorable impression from both the front and back.

Inside, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 makes the most of the platform's extended wheelbase of up to 3,000 millimeters, with innovative features such as a movable center console that allows for greater mobility. In addition, numerous surfaces onboard are built from eco-friendly materials, including organically treated leather seats, sustainable fibers sprayed with bio-based paint, and the revolutionary material used in the doors. All of this reflects shoppers' intentional desire to purchase ethical and ecological products.

This exceptional automobile was made possible by designers and engineers' enthusiastic and concentrated efforts who pushed the boundaries of what is possible with an electric vehicle.

IONIQ 5 was selected as the World Car of the Year from a field of 28 contestants and three finalists. To be considered for the assessment basis, a vehicle must be produced in quantities of at least 10,000 units per year, be priced below the luxury level in the major markets, and be sold in at least two significant markets on at least two continents between January 1, 2021, and March 30, 2022.

The Hyundai IONIQ 5 was named the World Electric Vehicle of the Year following a competition with ten other vehicles. A jury of six specialists from France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States selected the World Car Design of the Year. IONIQ 5 outperformed all competitors in each of the five divisions of this year's World Car Awards based on design and innovation criteria.
