Mercedes charms the automotive world with breathtaking glimpses of the future at regular intervals. The new Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX electric car is no exception. Furthermore, it establishes standards! The electric concept car presented at CES 2022 is projected to have a range of over 1,000 kilometers at a constant speed of 130 kilometers per hour.

What appears to be a technical miracle can be attributed to extensive development effort on every nook and corner of the electric vehicle. The journey begins in the body: Even with pure test cars, the aerodynamics of the Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX provide a drag coefficient value of 0.17. However, they are not usually road legal and can only be seen in the wind tunnel with unique wheel coverings and no outside mirrors.

Before the technical development phase, every square centimeter of the body, the wheels, all the air holes, and the underbody was adjusted with a single purpose in mind: the air should flow around the vehicle as smoothly as possible, i.e., without turbulence. That's why the Vision EQXX has the appearance he does. For example, a thin cooling aperture is seen at the very front, below the front spoiler, but it only opens when necessary.

At the back, near to the ground, an entirely new electric motor operates, delivering a maximum output of 204 hp to the rear wheels and is one of the most efficient in the world. Again, the engineers at Mercedes profited from the know-how of the F1 and Formula E teams. The electric car's battery breaks all energy density and capacity records. It weighs 30% less than the energy storage device of the electric S-Class; the Mercedes-Benz EQS is half the size but has the same amount of energy in its storage.

The battery is charged at 900 volts, also a record-breaking voltage. Charging should take a few minutes at most. Perhaps you still have time for a cup of coffee or a little discussion on the automobile, which is already strange to you. On the roof, 117 solar cells are at work. They supply more power to the drive. That should give you an extra 25 kilometers of range - not a lot, but if you want to design the most efficient automobile in the world, you need every kilowatt-hour.

Whatever you touch or see inside the four-door automobile is composed of aluminum, glass, cactus, bamboo fiber, or mushrooms. Yes, you read that right: Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX is made entirely of vegan materials. The era of noble leather and noble timbers has passed. So it's hardly unexpected that the futuristic style is carried over inside. The first impression is dominated by the first entirely seamless display in a Mercedes-Benz, which stretches over 47.5 inches from one A-pillar to the other and completely captivates you.

Mercedes-Benz has taken MBUX, or the interaction between man and machine, to a whole new level. The central console, which is exceptionally sleek and exquisite and recalls a contemporary bridge, is also eye-catching. The central console has only two turn-push switches. Three lit ventilation nozzles beneath the main display round off the image, resembling miniature jet engines on a spaceship.

When it comes to comfort, Mercedes customers never have to make a sacrifice. So you're sitting really comfortably in the Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX, and there's lots of room. Each seat has its own loudspeaker, allowing each of the car's four occupants to hear their own sound. The insulation is solely intended for long-distance travel. The chassis, tires, and vehicle frame, on the other hand, are designed to be efficient. Many elements were created utilizing specialized software to conserve space and weight. The result is remarkable: the Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX weighs just 1,700 kg. That's really low for an electric vehicle of this size.

Of all, this electric car is just a vision, a sight through a time window. However, many advancements in this vehicle are now a reality. The electric concept vehicle, which is now on display in Las Vegas, is also available for registration in Germany. Hopefully, we'll be able to address the issue of actual energy use on a test drive shortly.

Mercedes-Benz has announced that individual Vision EQXX components will be mass-produced soon. However, the newly improved battery and electric motor should help all models in the EQ series. So it remains to be seen whether the Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX will become a production automobile at some time. In any event, the competition will be watching, and potential consumers will most likely want to know if, when, and at what price this efficient champion can be purchased. We don't know yet, but we'll keep you updated. @via Mercedes.
