The Opel Astra Electric is based on the same platform as the new Peugeot 308 and DS 4, which are also part of the Stellantis group. This means that it shares some of the technology and features of its French cousins but with a distinctive Opel identity and flair.

What makes the Opel Astra Electric stand out?

One of the main advantages of the Opel Astra Electric is its battery capacity and range. The car uses a 54 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that provides a WLTP range of up to 400 km (248 miles) on a single charge. This is more than enough for most daily commutes and trips, and it also compares favorably with some of its rivals, such as the Volkswagen ID.3 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5.

The battery can be recharged at home or public charging points using either a standard Type 2 connector or a CCS connector for fast charging. The Opel Astra Electric supports up to 100 kW of fast charging power, which means that it can replenish 80% of its battery in about 30 minutes. The car also comes with a heat pump as standard, which helps to optimize battery efficiency and performance in different weather conditions.

The Opel Astra Electric is powered by a single electric motor that produces 154 hp (115 kW) and 260 Nm (192 lb-ft) of torque. The motor drives the front wheels, giving the car a smooth and responsive acceleration. The electric car can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 8.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 150 km/h (93 mph). The car also has three driving modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport, which adjust the power delivery and regenerative braking according to the driver's preference.

How does the Opel Astra Electric look and feel?

The Opel Astra Electric retains the sleek and modern design of the regular Astra but with some subtle differences that highlight its electric nature. The car features a black grille with an illuminated Opel logo, black door mirrors, and a black roof. It also has a unique 18-inch wheel design that improves aerodynamics and reduces the drag coefficient. The Ioniq 5 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.4 seconds, and reach a top speed of 185 km/h (115 mph). The Ioniq 5 also supports up to 220 kW of fast charging power, which means that it can replenish 80% of its battery in about 18 minutes. However, the Ioniq 5 is also more expensive than the Opel Astra Electric, with a starting price of €48,700 ($54,300) in Germany. The Ioniq 5 also has a more angular and retro-inspired design, which may not appeal to everyone.

The Kia EV6 is another rival that shares the same platform and technology as the Hyundai Ioniq 5. The EV6 has a similar range and performance as the Ioniq 5 but with a more sporty and dynamic design. The EV6 also offers a GT version that has a dual-motor system that produces 577 hp (430 kW) and 740 Nm (546 lb-ft) of torque. The EV6 GT can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.5 seconds, and reach a top speed of 260 km/h (162 mph). However, the EV6 is also more expensive than the Opel Astra Electric, with a starting price of €48,700 ($54,300) in Germany for the base model, and €99,590 ($111,100) for the GT model.
