The BYD Denza Z electric supercar enters the high-performance EV class with 1,604 PS, equal to about 1,582 hp, plus 1,240 Nm, or roughly 915 lb-ft. Yet its pricing creates the sharper talking point: the Coupe starts at $100,300 in China and $184,800 in the UK.

That creates an $84,500 gap. Specifically, the UK figure sits 84.2 percent above the Chinese price.

Denza Z Pricing Shows a Major Regional Gap

Denza divides the range into Coupe, Spider, and Racing versions.

Version and market Price in USD WLTP range Key performance data Difference vs. China Coupe
Coupe, China $100,300 255 miles 0-62 mph in 2.25 sec, 186 mph Base
Spider, China $115,100 249 miles 0-62 mph in 2.30 sec, 186 mph +$14,800
Racing, China $174,100 236 miles 0-62 mph in 1.96 sec*, 217 mph* +$73,800
Coupe, UK $184,800 255 miles 0-62 mph in 2.25 sec, 186 mph +$84,500

*With the optional semi-slick tire package.

The figures do not separate taxes, homologation, transport, distributor costs, or dealer margins. Consequently, buyers should not read the spread as pure profit. The UK Coupe still costs $10,700 more than the Chinese Racing version.

Triple Motors Deliver 1,582 HP

The e3 Sports Car Platform uses one 500-kW front motor and two 340-kW rear motors. Independent rear drive lets the software vary torque at each wheel within milliseconds, supporting active torque vectoring and Compass Turn.

Denza also fits DiSus-M magnetorheological suspension. An electromagnetic field changes damper-fluid viscosity in milliseconds, allowing softer responses on rough pavement and firmer control during hard cornering. In addition, Vehicle Motion Control coordinates steering, braking, suspension, and motor output with a claimed 10-millisecond signal time.

  • Output: 1,180 kW, about 1,582 hp
  • Torque: 1,240 Nm, about 915 lb-ft
  • Rear motor speed: up to 30,000 rpm
  • Brakes: carbon-ceramic discs with six-piston front calipers

Dimensions Mix Supercar Proportions With Four Seats

Looking at the data, the Coupe measures 4,780 mm long, 1,975 mm wide, and 1,330 mm tall, equal to 188.2, 77.8, and 52.4 inches. Its 2,780-mm wheelbase equals 109.4 inches. Denza packages a 2+2 cabin and a 250-liter trunk, expandable to 550 liters.

Specification Coupe Spider Racing
Length 188.2 in / 4,780 mm 188.2 in / 4,780 mm 191.7 in / 4,870 mm
Width 77.8 in / 1,975 mm 77.8 in / 1,975 mm 78.3 in / 1,990 mm
Height 52.4 in / 1,330 mm 53.1 in / 1,350 mm 53.1 in / 1,350 mm
Curb weight 4,916 lb / 2,230 kg 5,071 lb / 2,300 kg 4,960 lb / 2,250 kg
Drag coefficient 0.250 0.255 0.310
Wheel size 20 in 20 in 21 in

The Racing model accepts higher drag because its aero package targets cornering grip. Its splitter, underfloor generators, vents, and adjustable wing produce up to 1,060 kg of downforce at 217 mph. Revised ducting raises motor cooling by 50 percent and brake-disc cooling by 32 percent.

A 76-kWh Blade Battery Charges in Nine Minutes

The second-generation Blade Battery uses lithium-iron-phosphate chemistry and Cell-to-Body integration. The 76-kWh pack supplies 255 miles in the Coupe, 249 miles in the Spider, and 236 miles in the Racing under WLTP testing. From an expert perspective, the compact pack helps packaging, although a curb weight above 2.2 metric tons still demands strong thermal control.

Flash Charging moves the battery from 10 to 70 percent in five minutes and from 10 to 97 percent in nine minutes. By comparison, limited access to 1,500-kW charging hardware may reduce that advantage on regular roads.

Denza Z Versus Electric Performance Rivals

Model Starting price in USD Approx. output 0-62 mph Top speed
Denza Z Racing, China $174,100 1,582 hp 1.96 sec* 217 mph*
Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Weissach $239,400 1,020 hp 2.20 sec 190 mph
Yangwang U9, launch price $233,400 1,282 hp 2.36 sec 192 mph
Rimac Nevera R About $2.63 million 2,107 hp 1.72 sec 268 mph

The Denza Z Racing beats the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Weissach and standard Yangwang U9 on published acceleration, top speed, and price. The Rimac remains quicker and faster, but it costs roughly 15 times as much.

Pro-Tips: Is the UK Denza Z Worth the Extra $84,500?

Buyers should check three items:

  1. Confirm Flash Charging access on regular routes.
  2. Compare insurance, tires, brakes, and track support costs.
  3. Verify UK equipment, warranty terms, and delivery timing.

The UK Coupe suits buyers who value local sales and service support. Pure value favors the Chinese-market car by a wide margin. Denza has built a serious electric supercar, but its international pricing now attracts almost as much attention as its acceleration.

Lotus has just presented its first all-electric model, the Evija, a 2,000 hp supercar that accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in less than 3.0 seconds, reaches a maximum speed of 320 km / h and has 400 km of autonomy. Lotus had long been… Continue reading
