Volkswagen is gearing up to launch its flagship electric vehicle, the ID.7 GTX, a long-distance limousine with more power and all-wheel drive. The German automaker has given a first preview of the new model, which is expected to hit the market in 2023.
The ID.7 GTX is based on the Modular Electric Drive Toolkit (MEB) platform, which Volkswagen uses for its ID family of electric vehicles. The ID.7 GTX will be the first model to feature a dual-motor system, with one electric motor on each axle, delivering a combined output of 335 horsepower and a maximum torque of 460 pound-feet.
The dual-motor system also enables the ID.7 GTX to have an intelligent all-wheel drive system, which can distribute the power between the front and rear wheels depending on the driving situation and road conditions. This will enhance the stability, traction, and handling of the vehicle, especially on slippery or uneven surfaces.
The 2023 Volkswagen ID.7 GTX will also have a large battery pack with a capacity of 111 kilowatt-hours, which will enable it to travel up to 435 miles on a single charge, according to the WLTP cycle. This will make it one of the market's most efficient and long-range electric vehicles, rivaling the likes of the Tesla Model S and Lucid Air.
The ID.7 GTX will also offer fast-charging capabilities, allowing it to recharge up to 186 miles of range in just 15 minutes at a 150-kilowatt DC charger. The vehicle will also support bi-directional charging, meaning it can supply power to other devices or vehicles when needed.
The 2023 Volkswagen ID.7 GTX will have a spacious and luxurious interior, with a seating capacity of up to seven passengers. The vehicle will feature a large panoramic glass roof. The roof will also have an integrated solar panel, which can generate up to 1.5 kilowatt-hours of electricity per day, enough to power about 9 miles of driving.
The ID.7 GTX will also have a digital cockpit, with a 12-inch touchscreen display and a head-up display with augmented reality features. The vehicle will also have a voice-controlled assistant, which can recognize natural language commands and gestures. The vehicle will also have a high-end sound system from Harman Kardon, with 14 speakers and a subwoofer.
The 2023 Volkswagen ID.7 GTX will also have a host of advanced driver assistance systems, such as adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, parking assist, and emergency braking. The vehicle will also have a level 2 autonomous driving system, which can take over steering, acceleration, and braking on highways and in traffic jams.
The ID.7 GTX will be a premium electric vehicle that will compete with other luxury sedans and SUVs in the market. The vehicle will have a sleek and aerodynamic design, with LED headlights and taillights, a large grille with illuminated logo, and 21-inch alloy wheels. The vehicle will also have a sporty appearance, with red accents on the exterior and interior, as well as GTX badges on the front and rear.
The 2023 Volkswagen ID.7 GTX will be available in four colors: Glacier White Metallic, Moonstone Grey Metallic, Kings Red Metallic, and Carbon Steel Grey Metallic. The vehicle will also have three trim levels: Pure Performance, Elegance Plus Performance, and Max Performance.
The ID.7 GTX will be priced at around $90,000 in the US market, which is comparable to other high-end electric vehicles such as Tesla Model S Plaid and Lucid Air Dream Edition. The vehicle will be produced at Volkswagen’s Zwickau plant in Germany, which has been converted into an all-electric facility.
