The prices and more specific information on the technology of the BMW iX variants are available. The first two models will be launched as BMW iX xDrive40 and BMW iX xDrive50, with which the company also announces a small reorganization of their familiar name structure: While the number for classifying the performance in recent decades is always followed by an abbreviation for gasoline (i), diesel (d) or plug-in hybrid (e), the iX electric SUV comes without a corresponding letter at the end of the model name. The xDrive label still stands for all-wheel drive.
Those who have previously waited for specific technical data on performance, battery capacity and range will now finally get a little more clarity. The BMW iX xDrive40 has 300 hp and accelerates from 0 to 100 in a little more than 6.0 seconds and covers more than 400 kilometres with one battery charge. The gross capacity of the lithium-ion battery is over 70 kWh.
The BMW iX xDrive50 offers even better numbers in every aspect: its two electric motors together produce 500 hp and accelerate the electric SUV from 0 to 100 km / h in under 5.0 seconds. The range of BMW iX xDrive50 is over 600 kilometres according to WLTP thanks to its even larger battery, which has over 100 kWh in gross capacity. The enormously high efficiency of 93 per cent that BMW specifies for the iX's electric motors makes a significant contribution to the long-range of the electric SUV.
There is also a performance difference in terms of the maximum charging speed: while the BMW iX xDrive40 can be charged with a maximum of 150 kW, the BMW iX xDrive50 can be charged with 200 kW - provided you find a correspondingly charging station. Due to the differently sized batteries, it is still possible with both models to charge the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in less than 40 minutes.
