Elegant as a coupe, powerful as an SUV and all-electric car: the ID.5 GTX has its premiere disguised as a concept car at the IAA Munich Motor Show. The first electric SUV coupe is based on Volkswagen's electric MEB platform seduces with its sleek design and powerful dual-engine four-wheel drive.
The ID.5 GTX is the third model in Volkswagen's ID family and is the first electric SUV coupe from Volkswagen. The model is closely related to the ID.4 SUV, but the curved lines and coupe-like roofline make the ID.5 GTX extra elegant and sporty, and the body's short front and rear overhang and 21-inch large wheels highlight its strong character. ID. 5's front design is characterized by the advanced IQ-Light LED matrix headlights that generate an intelligently controlled high beam and give the car a sympathetic and unique look. The Matrix headlights and the LED light strip that run into the Volkswagen logo are combined with three powerful LED lights integrated on each side of the front bumper. In addition, the flat, sloping A-pillars close to the front give the roofline an elegant flow, extend low over the body, and descend harmoniously towards the integrated rear spoiler. At the rear of the Volkswagen ID.5, the horizontal lines, the LED rear lights with 3D effect and the LED light strip highlight the car's width and give it a striking and sophisticated visual expression.
The abbreviation, GTX, stands for Volkswagen's new sporty model line. It renews the story of the successful GTI, GTD and GTE models and transfers it to a world of electric mobility. The Volkswagen ID.5 GTX has an electric motor on both the front and rear axles that plays together and results in an intelligent and efficient four-wheel drive that guarantees superior traction and sporty driving characteristics. In addition, the 77 kWh lithium-ion battery located under the floor between the axles provides an expected range of up to 497 km (WLTP).
The first Volkswagen electric SUV Coupe on the MEB platform will be an exclusive alternative to the Volkswagen ID.4 that we can find in European dealerships. After the launch of the Volkswagen ID.4 GTX, this is the second model in the GTX family.
When the Volkswagen ID.5 GTX electric car lands at dealers in early 2022, it will be the second model with the sporty GTX designation, further accelerating Volkswagen's ACCELERATE strategy. Volkswagen has a goal of increasing the share of electric cars to account for up to 70 % of Volkswagen's total sales in Europe by 2030.
