With the Peugeot e-2008, the French manufacturer offers the best example of an electric compact SUV. Compact SUVs are an extremely popular vehicle category in Europe. So it is hardly surprising that more and more vehicles of this type are also available on the electric car market. The Peugeot e-2008 has been available for around a year.
Before we turn to the actual driving record, let's take a quick look at the general technical details. The Peugeot 2008 compact SUV, which can reach speeds of up to 150 km / h, comes to the customer with a 100 kW / 136 hp 1-speed automatic transmission (max. 260 Nm of torque). The built-in battery (eight-year guarantee up to 160,000 kilometres of mileage) has a capacity of 50 kWh and can be charged at AC charging stations with up to 11 kW. According to the datasheet, up to 100 kW are available at DC fast-charging stations. That promises a charge from 0 to 80 % in 25 minutes. It took us just under 30 minutes at fast-charging stations for around 20 kWh. Around 30 kWh were charged in 55 minutes because, as with all-electric cars, the charging speed noticeably decreases with increasing charging time.
Anyone who takes a seat in the Peugeot e-2008 will rub their eyes in wonder at first. Because in many places the cockpit is not reminiscent of a classic interior, but rather conveys an extremely futuristic character. Many corners and edges characterize the overall appearance. Incidentally, not only on the inside but also on the outside of the body. In addition, there is a comparatively small, rather low-lying steering wheel and behind it, a rectangular narrow display. The i-Cockpit offers a crazy three-dimensional display with the most important driving data. It looks extremely modern, but it probably doesn't meet the tastes of all drivers. However, more classic display types can also be selected on request.
The numerous pressure and sensor buttons below the multimedia screen also take getting used to. You don't have the feeling of sitting in a car cockpit anymore, but of travelling in a spaceship. It takes time to internalize the individual functions of the seven sensor and push-buttons. And the operation is not always intuitive either. This sometimes distracts too much from driving. At night, the ambient lighting in the glove compartment and on the doors comes into its own.
The actual driving in the Peugeot e-2008 electric compact SUV is possible in three driving modes. They can be selected using a small rocker switch on the centre console. It always starts in "Normal" mode after the engine has started. If you want to save a little energy, you can switch to "Eco" mode. The car can then be used more as a comfortable cruiser. Just the thing for city journeys. The complete opposite is the "Sport" mode. Anyone who opts for this driving mode will experience the Peugeot 2008 electric compact SUV from a completely different perspective.
The Peugeot opted for comfortable grey sports seats for the GT version. They offer proper support even when driving briskly and are comfortably padded not only on short journeys but also on longer journeys. The steering is a bit spongy, but the suspension is well coordinated. It smoothes out bumps on the road pleasingly.
The bottom line is that the 4.30 meters long and almost 1.8 meters wide Peugeot e-2008 is one thing above all else: an electric SUV that can provide a lot of driving pleasure. Not only in the city centre but also on commuter trips overland and the motorway. The electric compact SUV, on the other hand, is less suitable for long journeys. The electric range of only around 200 to 250 kilometres at a cruising speed of 120 km / h seems a little small. However, new energy is recharged quite quickly at DC charging stations.
The airy feeling of space proves to be extremely pleasant. In the Peugeot e-2008, at least the front is not too crowded. It looks different in the second row of seats. The rather wide sloping ceilings and the windows that narrow towards the rear create restrictions here. Neither the driver nor the front passenger seat can be adjusted electrically. The trunk can also only be closed manually. The double loading floor, which offers space for the charging cables below the actual loading area is very practical.
The Peugeot e-2008 GT electric compact SUV is available at a base price of 39,500 at Peugeot dealers. A panoramic sliding roof (+990 euros), a parking assistant with reversing camera (+250 euros) and a Qi charging station for the smartphone (+150 euros) are available as special equipment. Alternatively, the Peugeot 2008 is also available as a diesel or gasoline engine.
