By 2020 Honda foresees the electrification of all its main models. The new Honda Jazz e:HEV marks an important step in this direction. After being unveiled at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show, it is ready to make its way onto the market.
The next generation of Honda Jazz will only be on the European market from June. Honda Jazz e:HEV will be available from 22,000 euros and the Crosstar version from 26,250 euros.
The hybrid drive e:HEV in the new Jazz combines a 1.5 litre DOHC i-VTEC petrol engine with two electric motors and a lithium-ion battery. The system output is 80 kW (107 hp). The new Jazz accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 9.4 seconds. The top speed is 175 km / h. The fuel consumption is given as 3.6 litres / 100 km.
The electric motors developed by Honda should be characterized by their low weight, small size and high efficiency and power density, according to the manufacturer. The electric drive motor delivers speeds of up to 13,300 rpm and a maximum torque of 253 Newton meters.
Honda Jazz e:HEV offers a total of three driving modes. In the "EV Drive", an electric motor drives the vehicle directly: the energy required comes from the lithium-ion battery. In the "Hybrid Drive", the petrol engine drives the second electric motor, which acts as a generator and "produces" energy for the electric drive motor. In "Engine Drive" mode, the petrol engine is connected directly to the wheels.
In most inner-city driving situations, the Jazz e: HEV automatically switches between electric and hybrid drive. The combustion engine then takes over the drive work at high speeds. If necessary, the electric drive motor provides additional power.
Compared to its predecessor, the interior looks much tidier. The most frequently used functions should be able to be operated via the LCD touchscreen. Networked infotainment services could also be activated via the touchscreen or voice control, including information on weather and parking spaces, music, navigation, location and telephone services. In addition to the integrated apps, the user has access to smartphone content via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Honda Jazz will also offer a Wi-Fi Hotspot. “OK Honda” is the command to activate the automotive voice assistant, which uses artificial intelligence and contextual understanding.
The Japanese promise high driving comfort, steady acceleration, friction-optimized suspension and improved body rigidity.
The trunk volume in the new generation is specified as 298 to 1,203 litres.
The Jazz has a distance control and an active lane departure warning system as standard. A blind-spot warning and a parking assistant system are also standard.
