The Hyundai plant in Nošovice, Czech Republic has resumed operation after more than three weeks of coronavirus shutdown.

For the time being, only two of the usual three shifts work in Nošovice, as a spokesman for the German Press Agency confirmed. There are also stricter hygiene regulations, and the company premises are also disinfected several times a day. Walls were also installed in the canteen. However, the spokesman did not provide any information on the preliminary production capacities. Therefore, the European production of the Kona Electric starts again.

The plant, which produces also the Hyundai i30 compact car, among other things, employs more than 2,500 people under normal circumstances. The automaker produces 1,500 cars a day, last year it produced 309,500 cars.

While Kia was the first to restart production in Slovakia on Monday 6th April.

In the Czech plants of the VW subsidiary Skoda and at the French-Japanese joint venture TPCA in Kolin near Prague, the temporary coronavirus shutdown should take a little longer. Skoda last-mentioned April 27 as the target date for the start of production.

Audi is slowly starting up its production, which was stopped in the Corona crisis, and is starting at the Györ plant in Hungary. A first engine assembly line with around 100 employees has been open there since Tuesday, as the company announced on request. However, it will only be operated in one instead of the usual three shifts.

Production at the other locations is currently at a standstill. According to the current status, Audi plans to gradually ramp up production in Neckarsulm and Brussels from April 20 and in Ingolstadt from April 27.
