Mercedes-Benz has presented the new EQA electric SUV. The compact SUV will be available with a range of more than 420 km. The all-new Mercedes-Benz EQA is the electric sibling to the Mercedes-Benz GLA compact SUV. Technically, the EQA is somehow an A-Class because is based on the flexible MFA2 platform and can therefore be produced in parallel with the combustion engines.

Autonomy & Price

First of all, the Mercedes-Benz EQA 250 will be available as a special Edition 1 model and it will be launched with front-wheel drive, which according to the car manufacturer should achieve a range of 420 kilometres according to the new WLTP test cycle. The power consumption of this variant is presented as 15.7 kWh per 100 kilometres. The price list for Mercedes-Benz EQA 250 starts at around 48,000 euros (VAT included). Attention, you must take into consideration that this price is without any environmental bonus and Mercedes-Benz discounts. Sales will start in February, but the first cars will not arrive until later in the spring.

Power

The EQA 250 is driven by a 140 kW / 190 hp asynchronous electric motor (ASM) with a maximum 375 Nm of torque, which allows it to run 0-100 km/h in 8.9 seconds and the top speed is 160 km / h.

Battery

The EQA has the 66.5 kWh lithium-ion battery as an integral part of the chassis. With a quick charger, it can be charged with up to 100 kW (DC / DC), which means that it can be charged from 10-80% in just 30 minutes. On AC boxes, 100% charging via the standard 11 kW onboard charger takes almost 6 hours.

The Mercedes MeCharge service gives customers access to 450,000 charging points in 31 countries. Also, the technology for charging without authentication is on board and already works on Ionity charging stations.

The Mercedes-Benz EQA 250 electric SUV is the primary engine of the EQA range, later more powerful variants (up to 270 hp - 200 kW) with all-wheel drive and a WLTP range of over 500 kilometres will follow.

The EQA can be equipped with a towbar and the front-wheel-drive version can tow trailers of up to 750 kg.

The glass roof - divided in the middle by a rather thick beam - gives a rather spacious impression. The legroom is also reasonably good, partly thanks to the fact that the seats are shaped a bit like airplane seats which gives better space for the knees. The luggage space is limited to 340 litres, also it has no luggage space under the hood. The rear seat backrests can, of course, be folded down.

Like its big brother EQC, a number of measures have been implemented to reduce noise and increase comfort. The driveline and other elements such as the AC compressor are extra insulated.

Compared to the competition, EQA has significantly less engine power than the Volvo XC40 and less space than the Volkswagen ID.4, Skoda Enyaq and Audi Q4 e-tron.

Mercedes-Benz's subsidiary Accumotive will supply the battery system and the EQA compact SUV will be built in Rastatt (Germany).

Based on the popularity of EQC, the Mercedes-Benz EQA 250 will also be a success.
