The Nissan LEAF NISMO went on sale in Japan on July 22, 2026, from about $40,470. Nissan keeps the standard B5 and B7 motor outputs, then adds serious chassis work: NISMO springs and stabilizers, swing-valve dampers, Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires, lighter Enkei wheels, recalibrated drive modes, and four-stage regenerative braking.

What Does the Nissan LEAF NISMO Cost in Japan?

Nissan sells three front-wheel-drive versions. The B5 NISMO carries the lowest price and a 55-kWh battery, while both B7 models use a 78-kWh pack. All three use active liquid battery cooling. The regular B7 costs about $2,160 more than the B5; the Recaro model adds another $1,680.

Version Approx. price Battery Output Torque Curb weight Power-to-weight
B5 NISMO $40,470 55 kWh 174.3 hp / 130 kW 254 lb-ft / 345 Nm 4,012 lb / 1,820 kg 14.0 kg/kW
B7 NISMO $42,630 78 kWh 214.6 hp / 160 kW 262 lb-ft / 355 Nm 4,233 lb / 1,920 kg 12.0 kg/kW
B7 NISMO Recaro $44,310 78 kWh 214.6 hp / 160 kW 262 lb-ft / 355 Nm 4,189 lb / 1,900 kg 11.9 kg/kW

The Recaro version sheds 44 pounds because Nissan removes equipment that includes the Bose audio system. Consequently, it posts the best power-to-weight figure despite using the same motor and battery as the regular B7.

A lower kg/kW figure means each kilowatt moves less vehicle mass. The Recaro model's 11.9 kg/kW beats the B5's 14.0 kg/kW by 15%.

What Changes Make the Nissan LEAF NISMO Sharper?

NISMO focuses on grip, steering response, roll control, and driver-adjustable deceleration. Nissan fits firmer springs and stabilizers, a revised front suspension-member bushing, and KYB swing-valve shock absorbers. In addition, Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires add dry and wet grip.

  • The 235/45 R19 tires sit on 8.0J Enkei wheels that measure 0.5 inch wider than the regular LEAF wheels.
  • Each Enkei wheel cuts 2.2 pounds, reducing unsprung mass by about 8.8 pounds across the car.
  • Nissan retunes NISMO, Standard, and Eco acceleration maps through control adjustments that operate every 1/10,000 second.
  • Four regen levels let the driver select low-resistance coasting or strong accelerator-controlled deceleration without removing a hand from the steering wheel.

Specifically, the LEAF NISMO EV measures 173.8 inches long, 71.3 inches wide, and 61.0 inches tall, with a 105.9-inch wheelbase and 5.3 inches of ground clearance. ProPILOT 2.0 raises a B7 to 61.6 inches.

Nissan's aerodynamic work also creates negative lift without adding drag. Front corner guides manage side airflow, while the rear under-spoiler and extended ducktail control air leaving the body.

Does the Nissan LEAF NISMO Make More Power?

No. Nissan leaves both motors unchanged: 174.3 hp for the B5 and 214.6 hp for the B7. Looking at the data, the B7 provides 23.1% more power than the B5 but only 2.9% more torque, so its stronger power-to-weight ratio supplies the main numerical advantage.

Nissan also leaves NISMO range, acceleration, and charging times unpublished. Do not assign the standard B7 X's 436-mile WLTC result to this model; the NISMO's tires, weight, and equipment differ. By comparison, Nissan gives the standard B7 a 150-kW DC peak and the smaller-battery LEAF a 105-kW peak, but the launch material does not confirm those rates here.

Which Nissan LEAF NISMO Offers the Best Value?

From an expert perspective, the B7 NISMO makes the strongest case. I would spend the extra $2,160 over the B5 for 40.3 more hp and the larger battery. I would reserve the $1,680 Recaro upgrade for buyers who need greater lateral support, since it adds no motor output.

Pro-Tip for Japanese Buyers

Ask the dealer for the certified range, peak DC rate, AC charging specification, insurance quote, and replacement-tire price before ordering. The 19-inch Michelin set will cost more to replace than ordinary touring tires, and that expense changes total ownership cost.

Nissan LEAF NISMO Pros and Cons

Pros Cons
Substantial suspension and bushing changes No increase in peak motor output
Lighter, wider Enkei wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires No published NISMO range or charge time
Four driver-selectable regen levels 5.3-inch clearance limits rough-road use
B5 and B7 battery choices Japan-only launch with no confirmed export plan

Will Nissan Sell the LEAF NISMO in the United States?

Nissan has announced no U.S. launch. The 2026 U.S. LEAF uses NACS for DC charging and J1772 for Level 2 AC charging, so a U.S. NISMO would need regional charging hardware and certification. Until Nissan confirms it, buyers should regard a North American release as speculation.
