Volkswagen ID. Unyx 09 Launches at $26,800 With 5C Charging

Volkswagen ID. Unyx 09

Brand

  • Volkswagen

The Volkswagen ID. Unyx 09 launched in China on October 24, 2026, with a roughly $26,800 starting list price, a 92-kWh battery, and standard 5C charging cells. Rear-wheel-drive versions claim 469 miles under China's CLTC test. Volkswagen developed the large electric sedan with Xpeng for Chinese buyers.

How much does the Volkswagen ID. Unyx 09 cost?

The Volkswagen ID. Unyx 09 price starts at approximately $26,800 for the Ultra and reaches $37,200 for the all-wheel-drive Max. A restricted promotion cuts the entry price to roughly $25,290. Buyers need to distinguish that limited offer from the regular price before comparing trims or calculating ownership costs.

China-market trim Approximate list price in USD Drive layout CLTC range
Ultra $26,800 Rear-wheel drive 469 miles / 755 km
Flagship / fully equipped $32,700 Rear-wheel drive 469 miles / 755 km
Max $37,200 All-wheel drive 438 miles / 705 km

Conversions use approximately 6.718 Chinese currency units per dollar, with list prices rounded to the nearest $100.

The roughly $25,290 promotion covers 500 black Ultra cars. Volkswagen's launch-benefit window runs through November 30; buyers should confirm the discount's separate deadline and eligibility with dealers.

What do its size and power figures tell buyers?

The Unyx 09 combines a 200-inch body with a 119.3-inch wheelbase, placing it firmly among large electric sedans. Its rear motor supplies 308 hp; the Max adds a 188-hp front motor. That extra motor improves the traction toolkit, while its lower CLTC rating signals an efficiency tradeoff.

Specification Rear-wheel-drive versions Max AWD Buyer relevance
Motor ratings 230 kW / 308 hp rear 140 kW front + 230 kW rear Motor ratings alone don't establish acceleration
Battery Approximately 92 kWh Approximately 92 kWh AWD does not add battery capacity
Length 5,081 mm / 200.0 in Same Check garage clearance
Width 1,980 mm / 78.0 in Same Body width does not establish mirror clearance
Wheelbase 3,030 mm / 119.3 in Same Long axle spacing supports cabin packaging
Suspension upgrade Flagship adds dual-chamber air springs and DCC damping Includes both Ultra buyers should check equipment differences

The body stands approximately 59.4-60.1 inches tall, depending on configuration. Dual-chamber air springs change the working air volume to vary spring behavior, while adaptive dampers control suspension movement.

In addition, cabin and assistance equipment includes:

  • A standard 15.6-inch center display and an advertised 85-inch augmented-reality head-up display.
  • Xpeng's Turing chip with 750 TOPS of advertised computing capability.
  • Navigation-based driving assistance and remote parking functions.

Volkswagen describes the model's assistance as Level 2. The driver retains responsibility; computing power does not establish autonomous capability.

Does 5C charging mean a full battery in 12 minutes?

5C fast charging describes a charging rate relative to battery capacity, rather than a guaranteed session duration. Holding 5C throughout a charge would mathematically equal 12 minutes, but vehicles taper charging power. Volkswagen instead claims the Unyx 09 can add 155 miles of CLTC range in five minutes.

Its CATL LFP battery carries a reported 91.963-kWh capacity. Multiplying that figure by five gives roughly 460 kW as a nominal illustration, not a verified vehicle peak or sustained charging rate.

Pro-Tip: Before paying for charging performance, request:

  • A measured 10-80% charging curve.
  • Results with a cold battery and a warmed battery.
  • The charger's voltage, current limits, and shared-power conditions.

A five-minute range claim cannot answer those questions. Nor can CLTC mileage establish an EPA or winter-highway range estimate.

Should US buyers wait for the ID. Unyx 09?

US buyers should treat this launch as a China-market technology benchmark. The reviewed announcements provide no US sale date, US price, EPA range, or North American charging specification. A Chinese sticker-price conversion cannot establish American affordability, and the reported equipment does not confirm NACS or CCS compatibility.

Pros Cons and unanswered questions
Roughly 92-kWh battery across the lineup CLTC figures don't establish US highway range
Standard 5C charging cells No verified full charging curve in the reviewed launch reports
Optional air suspension and adaptive damping No announced US purchase route in those reports

My take: I would prioritize charging consistency and local service support over the AWD upgrade. Volkswagen says its Xpeng partnership delivered this sedan within 24 months. That development speed matters, but buyers still need insurance quotes, warranty terms, and depreciation evidence to judge total ownership cost.
