Tesla may be the most popular and well-known electric vehicle (EV) brand in the world, but it's not the only one. Many other automakers offer compelling and affordable EVs that can rival or even surpass Tesla's performance, range, features, and design models. Whether you're looking for a compact hatchback, a spacious SUV, a sporty coupe, or a versatile pickup truck, there's an EV for you in 2023. Here are the top 5 EV options you should consider if you don't want a Tesla.

1. Chevrolet Bolt EUV

The Chevrolet Bolt EUV is the larger sibling of the Bolt EV, which was redesigned for 2023. The Bolt EUV offers more rear legroom, more cargo space, and more features than the Bolt EV, such as a sunroof, a power driver's seat, and an available Super Cruise system that allows for hands-free driving on certain highways.

The Chevrolet Bolt EUV has a very attractive price tag, starting at $27,800 before any federal or state tax credits. With just the front-wheel drive, the car handles nicely in and around town. The Bolt EUV could be the perfect daily car for those looking for a cheap commute. It has an EPA-estimated range of 265 miles on a full charge, which is slightly less than the Bolt EV's 278 miles, but still more than enough for most drivers.

2. Kia EV6

The Kia EV6 is a new electric crossover that debuted in 2022. It's based on the same platform as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 but has a more aggressive and sporty design. The Kia EV6 offers two battery options: a standard 58 kWh pack that provides an estimated range of 230 miles and a long-range 77.4 kWh pack that boosts the range to 280 miles

The Kia EV6 also offers two motor options: a rear-wheel-drive single-motor setup that produces 225 horsepower and an all-wheel-drive dual-motor setup that delivers 320 horsepower. The Kia EV6 is fast and fun to drive but also practical and spacious. It has a roomy cabin with plenty of headroom and legroom and a generous cargo area with up to 53 cubic feet of space.

The Kia EV6 also has some innovative features, such as a vehicle-to-load function that allows you to use the car's battery to power other devices or even another vehicle, and a solar roof that can generate some extra juice for the battery.

3. Ford Mustang Mach-E

The Ford Mustang Mach-E is Ford's first electric vehicle built from the ground up, and they knocked it out of the park. The iconic Mustang coupe inspires the Mustang Mach-E, but it's actually a four-door crossover SUV with plenty of room for passengers and cargo. The Ford Mustang Mach-E offers four trim levels: Select, Premium, California Route 1, and GT. Each trim level has different battery and motor options, ranging from a standard-range 68 kWh pack with rear-wheel drive and 266 horsepower to an extended-range 88 kWh pack with all-wheel drive and 480 horsepower.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E also offers impressive performance, responsive steering, and adaptive suspension. The Mustang Mach-E has an EPA-estimated range of up to 305 miles on a full charge, depending on the trim level and configuration.

4. Rivian R1S

The Rivian R1S electric SUV is one of the most anticipated electric vehicles of 2023. It's an electric SUV that promises to combine luxury, adventure, and sustainability in one package. The Rivian R1S is based on the same platform as the Rivian R1T electric pickup truck but has a shorter wheelbase and a third row of seats that can accommodate up to seven people.

The Rivian R1S offers three battery options: a small 105 kWh pack that provides an estimated range of 240 miles, a medium 135 kWh pack that boosts the range to 310 miles, and a large 180 kWh pack that extends the range to 410 miles. The Rivian R1S also offers four electric motors, one for each wheel, that deliver up to 750 horsepower and enable some impressive off-road capabilities, such as torque vectoring, air suspension, and adjustable ground clearance. The Rivian R1S also has some unique features, such as a Gear Tunnel that provides extra storage space between the rear seats and the cargo area, a removable roof that lets you enjoy the open air and a Camp Kitchen that slides out and includes a sink, a stove, and a countertop.

5. BMW i4

The BMW i4 is a new electric sedan that aims to challenge the Tesla Model 3 and the Tesla Model S in the luxury segment. The BMW i4 is based on the 4 Series Gran Coupe but has a sleeker and more futuristic design. The BMW i4 offers two trim levels: the i4 eDrive40 and the i4 M50. The BMW i4 eDrive40 has a single rear motor that produces 335 horsepower and an estimated range of 300 miles. The i4 M50 has a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system that delivers 536 horsepower and an estimated range of 245 miles.

The BMW i4 electric sedan has a luxurious and spacious cabin with premium materials, advanced technology, and plenty of comfort features. The BMW i4 also has a large 14.9-inch touchscreen that runs on the latest iDrive 8 infotainment system, which supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as natural voice control and gesture control.

These are just some of the top EV options you should consider in 2023 if you want something other than a Tesla. Many more electric vehicles are coming to the market soon, from established brands such as Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, and Volvo, to newcomers such as LucidFisker, Canoo, and Bollinger Motors. The EV revolution is here, and you have plenty of choices to join it.
