Volkswagen surprised and wowed the crowd at the ID. meet in Locarno when it showed off the ID. XTREME concept car. Based on the all-wheel-drive ID.4 GTX, it combines the best parts of a modern electric SUV with the sense of adventure that comes with an off-road vehicle.

The Volkswagen ID. XTREME concept car was made to make people feel as much as possible and to give them a sense of adventure. With ID. XTREME, we take Volkswagen's electric mobility to a new level." The end result of the project is a one-of-a-kind all-terrain vehicle that looks tough and performs well. The system power of the concept car goes from 220 kW in a Volkswagen ID.4 GTX to 285 kW thanks to a high-performance electric motor on the rear axle and software changes in the electric drivetrain. This is a 30 percent increase in power.

Andreas Reckewerth's team made the concept car in Volkswagen's development department. Andreas is the development manager for MEB-based models. Silke Bagschik, who is in charge of the MEB product line, says, "The MEB platform has a huge amount of technical potential. Many of our customers use their cars for much more than just getting around." (Btw the new Skoda Enyaq Coupe iV electric car is also built on the MEB platform.)

The way the ID. XTREME looks from the outside, making it clear that it is a vehicle ready for any off-road adventure. The concept car has an authentic off-road look thanks to its raised rally car, 18-inch off-road wheels, modified front bumper with an extra protective bar, and 50 mm wider fender edges. The all-electric four-wheel drive can go on trips far from paved roads because it has a roof rack with a strip of LED lights and a body made of aluminum sheets that cover the whole underside.

The Volkswagen ID. XTREME also has a unique feature: the electric drivetrain makes a sound that was made in collaboration with Volkswagen Design. Inside, there are also a lot of eye-catching new features, like a lot of Alcantara applications, changed seats, and orange design elements. It should go without saying that Volkswagen ID. XTREME concept car is environmentally friendly because it is made from a test car that has reached the end of its useful life and runs on a used 82 kWh battery.

At the ID. meeting in Locarno, Volkswagen showed the public the ID. XTREME concept car for the first time. The ID. meeting is put on by and for people who are interested in electric transportation, and it could become the green and sustainable alternative to the traditional GTI meeting at Worthersee in Austria. This year, ID fans from all over Europe gathered on Lake Maggiore's shores to talk about their experiences with electric mobility.
