The manufacturer revealed the specifications and showed the design of the new Kia Sorento. The fourth-generation crossover was created on a completely new architecture, which will be equipped with a hybrid powertrain and will provide more space and comfort for passengers, as well as improved handling. Kia will be exhibiting the new generation of the Sorento SUV at the Geneva Motor Show.
In the South Korean market, the model will be available for pre-order in the coming days.
The fourth-generation Kia Sorento will be the first crossover SUV of the brand, created on a completely new platform. Thanks to a compact engine compartment, short overhangs and an increased wheelbase, allowing you to create an SUV with a more spacious and comfortable interior and handling, the novelty significantly exceeds the capabilities of its predecessor.
First of all, we are talking about the new Smartstream power unit, which consists of a 1.6-litre turbo gasoline direct injection engine, as well as an electric motor with a capacity of 44.2 kW. The total power of such a system is 230 hp, while the torque is 350 Nm. The lithium-ion polymer battery has a capacity of 1.49 kWh, while it is located in such a way that the volume of the passenger compartment, as well as the trunk, do not suffer.
In addition to the above drive, drivers from Europe and Korea will be able to choose a new 2.2-litre turbodiesel with a capacity of 202 hp (440 Nm) with a new 8-speed wet clutch gearbox (8DCT).
Kia does not intend to announce details of the plug-in hybrid version of the new Sorento until a later date but it seems that this will be different from the previous PHEV versions of the smaller SUV Niro and the Ceed series.
In addition to the new platform and powertrain, the fourth generation Sorento will be equipped with the latest safety systems, including a brake system that helps prevent a re-collision during an accident. In the event of an airbag deployment, the system automatically activates the brake system, thereby reducing the likelihood of a second strike. Crossovers equipped with such a system will also receive eight airbags.
