Announced almost a year ago and after an intense teasing campaign, Audi has officially launched the Q4 e-tron and Q4 e-tron Sportback electric SUVs. The drive portfolio for the Audi Q4 e-tron and Audi Q4 e-tron Sportback includes two batteries and three drive variants.

The new Audi Q4 e-tron range has available three engines:

- Audi Q4 35 e-tron with 170 hp and rear-wheel drive

- Audi Q4 40 e-tron with 204 hp and rear-wheel drive.

- Audi Q4 50 e-tron with 299 hp and all-wheel drive.

The top of the range Audi Q4 50 e-tron quattro reaches 100 km / h in 6.2 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 180 km / h.

Audi offers two battery variants: 55 kWh (52 kWh net) and 82 kWh (77 kWh net). The battery is mounted between axles for a lowered centre of gravity and balanced mass distribution. Depending on the engine and the size of the battery, the maximum range is up to 520 kilometres (WLTP). The batteries charge at speeds up to 125 kW. In optimal conditions, this means that in just 10 minutes you can recover 130 kilometres of autonomy.

Customers have three options for outdoor equipment (Basic, Advanced and S Line) and eight shades to choose from, including one called Violet Aurora.

The Audi Q4 e-tron can be optionally equipped with a sports suspension, which lowers the ground clearance by 15 millimetres. This is standard on the S Line equipment level. Here we must also mention the progressive steering, the Audi Drive Select system and the adaptive suspension.

Aesthetically, the new Audi Q4 e-tron offers a minimalist design: a single-frame front grille with a built-in e-tron logo and sunken ceiling for Q4 Sportback e-tron. The daytime running lights with four selectable light signatures are a premiere, the futuristic look of the taillights and the Matrix LED headlights are included in the list of optional features. The electric SUVs can run on rims between 19 and 21 inches in size.

Inside, Audi has prepared here a digital instrument panel with a 10.25-inch display, a multimedia system with a 10.1-inch screen (the latter is the largest display installed so far on an Audi), and a futuristic steering wheel with two spokes and touch zones that take the place of the buttons.

Unquestionably, the most important innovation is the Augmented Reality Head-Up Display. The Augmented Reality system provides information on two levels: the first of them, static, which seems to be projected at a distance of 3 meters in front of the driver and the second provides augmented guidance information which seems to be projected at a distance of 10 meters in front of the car.

Although it is part of the compact SUV segment, the new Audi Q4 e-tron can accommodate 5 passengers. The storage spaces inside is 25 litres, and the trunk volume is between 520 and 1,490 litres (535 and 1,460 litres for Sportback).

The safety systems include the Predictive Assistance technology,  Adaptive Cruise Assist and 360-degree video cameras.

Prices

Regarding the prices, it can be said that the Audi Q4 35 e-tron electric SUV has a starting price of 41,900 euros. The Audi Q4 40 e-tron comes to 47,500 euros, in the Q4 50 e-tron at least 52,900 euros are to be invested. And those who like and want the Sportback model have to factor in an overcharge of at least 2000 euros.

The Audi Q4 e-tron and Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron electric SUVs are built in Zwickau. Both use the Volkswagen Group's MEB platform, being closely related to the Volkswagen ID.4 and Skoda Enyaq iV.

The new Audi Q4 35 e-tron electric SUV will be available from June. The Sportback will follow in September.
