BMW unveiled the new BMW iX3, the first BMW car powered exclusively by electricity. The launch of the new BMW iX3 will start towards the end of 2020 when sales will start in China.

The new BMW iX3 electric SUV will be produced at the Shenyang plant in China, which is operated by the BMW Brilliance Automotive joint venture. BMW eDrive components are also manufactured in Shenyang.

The electric motor developed for the new BMW iX3 produces a maximum power of 286 hp and instantly develops a maximum torque of 400 Nm. Top speed is limited to 180Km/h. The electric motor operates according to the principle of a synchronous electric motor.

The energy density of the energy storage system has increased by another 20% compared to the battery cells used so far in BMW electrically powered models. Positioned on the floor of the new BMW iX3, the NMC-811 battery has a gross energy content of 80 kWh / 74 kWh. The battery weighs 518 kilograms and consists of 188 individually controllable prismatic cells - each in an aluminium case. The cells are grouped into 10 modules.

The new BMW iX3 has a range of up to 460 kilometres WLTP. 100 km autonomy can be ensured in 10 minutes of charging at 150 kW (maximum charging power) or in 30 minutes of charging at 50 kW.

The BMW iX3 electric SUV has a 30% lower CO2 footprint than the BMW X3 xDrive20d. When the BMW iX3 is exclusively charged with green energy, it has a 60% lower CO2 footprint.

The liquid cooling/heating system serves the storage unit, the power electronics and the electric motor. A two-level cooling module and a powerful control unit ensure ideal temperature control for BMW eDrive components in all operating conditions and in almost any weather. A separate auxiliary heater ensures that the high voltage battery achieves a consistently high level of efficiency when starting the machine - even at extremely low outside temperatures down to -30 ° Celsius.

The interior and the battery are heated using a heat pump system. The heat pump stands out for its extremely high efficiency; uses between 40 and 80% less energy than conventional electric heating while providing an equally comfortable climate on board.

The BMW iX3 is equipped as standard with 19-inch wheels and can also be ordered with the optional 20-inch version. The exterior of the new BMW iX3 can only be ordered with a metallic finish. Customers can choose from Metallic Carbon Black, Metallic Sophisto Gray with Shiny Effect, Metallic Mineral White, Phytonic Blue Metallic, Metallic Piedmont Red and Metallic Silver Cashmere.

Compared to the conventional-propelled BMW X3 versions, the ground clearance is about 7.5 centimetres lower. The load capacity of the new BMW iX3 is between 510 and 1,560 litres.

The new BMW iX3 is equipped as standard with adaptive suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers.

Metallic paint and 19-inch lightweight alloy wheels are standard on the new BMW iX3, along with LED headlights, automatic tailgate operation, panoramic glass sunroof, Driving Assistant Professional, active cruise control with Stop & Go function, assistant steering and lane control, lane change warning, front and rear parking range control, sports steering wheel, tire pressure gauge and alarm system. The BMW Live Cockpit Professional is also included in the list of standard equipment, as is the wireless charging telephony and an audio system with DAB + tuner.

The BMW Maps cloud-based navigation system, included as part of the BMW Live Cockpit Professional, allows you to calculate your route and arrival more accurately. Standard equipment for the new BMW iX3 also includes BMW Smart Personal Assistant, smartphone integration and digital services from BMW Connected Charging.

Price: 65,000 euros (estimated).
