The top 10 most popular electric cars of 2021

The top 10 most popular electric cars of 2021

Brand

  • Tesla

There were a lot of electric cars sold in 2021. These are the top 10 most popular electric cars of 2021. If you look in car showrooms across the United States, you can find dozens of all-electric, electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid cars. In addition, there will be many more electric cars and electric trucks to choose from in the next few years. They will come in all shapes and sizes, from hot hatches and small crossovers to sleek sedans and high-performance racers.

With each step we take toward a cleaner, greener future, electric cars will become more and more common. In 2021, the number of electric vehicles sold increased by 26 percent compared to the previous year. Even though restrictions and parts shortages will keep electric vehicle sales down, they will still reach 6.4 million units sold around the world this year, up a whopping 168 percent from last year.

Global sales growth in 2021 was led by Tesla, which sold more than 386,000 electric cars in the first three months. The Volkswagen Group came in second with 332,000 cars sold. General Motors came in third with 227,000 cars in the first three months of the year. As we near the end of 2021, more than 16 million electric vehicles will be in use around the world. Two-thirds of those will be all-electric vehicles.

The top ten most popular electric cars of 2021

Following is a list of the top 10 best-selling electric cars in the US for 2021. These cars do not cause any pollution at all. All of them have proven their worth in a very competitive field. These electric cars also lead the way when it comes to low maintenance, great range, and the most up-to-date safety and driver-assist features. This list is based on sales estimates from Automotive News. It goes from least to most units sold.

no. 10 Hyundai Ioniq Electric

Last year, the electric version of Hyundai's Ioniq hatchback sold in more numbers than the gasoline-powered counterpart. The electric version also comes in hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions. With a battery pack that only holds 38.3 kWh, the Ioniq has the smallest range of any of the top 10 best-selling electric cars in 2021. It has an EPA estimated range of 273 km before it needs to be charged. The Hyundai Ioniq Electric, on the other hand, comes with a lot of intelligent driver aids and DC fast charging as standard.

The Hyundai Ioniq Electric has a starting price of 29,100 euros.

no. 9 Porsche Taycan

People who want to go fast are flocking to the German car company's high-performance Porsche Taycan electric sports car. In its Turbo S trim, this high-end racer can get you from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 2.6 seconds, which is very quick. That is a lot faster than you can read this sentence right now. However, that trim level costs 185K. On the other hand, if you buy the Porsche Taycan 4S rear-wheel-drive version for less money, you can go 365 km on a single charge and get to 60 in 3.8 seconds. Fast enough, and you save more than $100,000.

The Porsche Taycan electric sports car has a starting price of 72,500 euros.

no. 8 Hyundai Kona Electric

It was another big win for Hyundai. The Hyundai sod four times more Kona Electric cars than Hyundai's Ioniq car. The Kona is more popular because it has a bigger battery pack, which gives it a range of 415 km instead of the Ioniq's 273 km. This is another reason it outsells the Ioniq, which is a small SUV that is very popular. The Kona is a small crossover, which is the most popular type of SUV today. In addition, both cars come with a 10-year/100,000 powertrain warranty and 5-years of roadside assistance from Hyundai.

The Hyundai Kona Electric has a starting price of 29,800 euros.

no. 7 Audi e-tron and Audi e-tron Sportback

The Audi e-tron line will whisk you away in style and comfort if you like high-end cars. The Audi e-tron can be a small sport utility vehicle or a sleek sedan with a two-motor, all-wheel-drive system with 355 hp (261 kW) and 414 pound-feet of torque. In 30 minutes, Audi says its 150-kW DC fast charger can recharge your Audi e-tron to 80 percent. You can drive for 357 km before you need to charge. If you put the back seats down, you will have 57 cubic feet of space for your things.

The Audi e-tron has a starting price of 57,700 euros.

no. 6 Nissan Leaf

The Nissan Leaf first came out in 2011, and it has been a big hit ever since. This is because it has low maintenance costs and a lot of space inside. For 236 km, the base S model comes with a 40-kWh battery pack, which is enough to run for a long time. However, the Nissan Leaf S Plus has a bigger 214-hp electric motor and a 62-kWh battery that can go 363 km. That is important to know because the 2022 Nissan Leaf is at least 4,000 euros cheaper than it was last year.

The Nissan Leaf has a starting price of 24,000 euros.

no. 5 Volkswagen ID.4

The Volkswagen ID4 is the first of the Volkswagen Group's fleet of soon-to-be-released zero-emission cars that will be electric. The ID4 took 2021 by storm. The Volkswagen ID4's base model comes with a 201 hp (148 kW) electric motor and rear-wheel drive. It has a comfortable ride and a lot of space inside, too. If you buy this electric car in 2022, there will be a two-motor version with an all-wheel drive. People who buy this electric car will get 402 km on one charge and the newest safety and driver aid features.

The Volkswagen ID.4 has a starting price of 35,000 euros.

no. 4 Ford Mustang Mach-E

Ford has a big hit on its hands and has tripled the production of the Mustang Mach-E. All of the things that this swift and agile electric crossover SUV can do, it does exceptionally well. The Ford Mustang Mach-E electric SUV has a beautiful interior full of the most up-to-date technology. The Ford Mustang Mach-E GT also has 480 hp (353 kW) and can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 3.5 seconds. This year, the Mach-E Premium has a bigger battery pack that gives it 490 km of range. In addition, the Mustang California 1 Edition comes with an all-wheel drive, a heated steering wheel, heated seats, and many more features.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E has a starting price of 37,600 euros.

no. 3 Chevrolet Bolt EV

The Chevy Bolt EV sales have gone up by 76% over last year. The 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV models have a single 200-horsepower motor that makes 266 pound-feet of torque and can go 416 km on one charge. They are also 4,200 euros cheaper than last year's models and have a new and more comfortable inside. In addition, Chevy has changed the look of its best-selling electric car. The Chevrolet Bolt EV now comes with a 10.2-inch touchscreen that can run Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as 55-kWh DC fast charging as standard.

The Chevrolet Bolt EV has a starting price of 27,100 euros.

no. 2 Tesla Model 3

More than one million of these basic Teslas have been sold in the electric car world. The Model 3 sets the standard for simple design and a large touchscreen control center. The Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus has a single motor and a 54-kWh battery that gives it a range of 423 km. The Premium Range Plus has two motors and a 72-kWh battery that gives it a range of 506 km. Dual motors, AWD, and a larger 82-kWh battery pack are included in the two top-of-the-line trims. They can go up to 568 km on one charge. The Standard Range Plus goes zero to 60 in 5.3 seconds. The Long Range takes 4.2 seconds, and the Performance version does it in just 3.1 seconds!

The Tesla Model 3 has a starting price of 35,000 euros.

no. 1 Tesla Model Y

If you want to buy an electric car, the Tesla Model Y is the best-selling electric car in the world. This small electric SUV sold more than the Model 3, and the company wants to double the production of the Model Y for 2022. This is how it works: The Model 3's brother is very fast, like an electric sports car in the body of a crossover. On the Long Range, you can go 524 km on one charge, while the Performance can only go 487 km before it needs to be charged. Both versions have two motors and drive all four wheels. The Tesla Model Y Long Range will get you to 60 miles per hour in 4.1 seconds if you buy it. If you buy the Performance, it will do it in just 3.5 seconds. The Tesla Model Y also has a lot of space for your things: 44 cubic feet.

The Tesla Model Y has a starting price of 49,900 euros.
