The iconic Ford Capri is back, but not quite as we remember it. Ford has revived the legendary nameplate for a new era, and this time it's an electric crossover SUV. The all-new Ford Capri blends design cues from SUVs and saloons, offering a combination of practicality, performance, and style.
A Storied Nameplate Electrified
The original Ford Capri was a beloved sports car produced from 1968 to 1986. Sleek, stylish, and undeniably fun to drive, the Capri captured the hearts of enthusiasts worldwide. The new Capri takes inspiration from its predecessor's sporty spirit but translates it into a modern electric vehicle that caters to today's drivers' needs.
Capri Design for the Modern Age
The new Ford Capri retains some of the classic design elements that made the original famous. The four signature LED headlights are connected by a black graphic reminiscent of the original's horizontal grille slats. The swooping coupe roofline and blacked-out window pillars create a sporty silhouette, while the four-piece taillights evoke the heritage of the past.
Modern Performance
The all-electric Capri boasts impressive performance. The base model features a rear-wheel-drive configuration with a single electric motor delivering 284 horsepower and a 0-62 mph time of 6.4 seconds. An all-wheel-drive option with dual motors ups the power output to 336 horsepower and cuts the 0-62 mph time to a brisk 5.3 seconds.
Impressive Range
Both Ford Capri variants come with a 77 kWh (usable) battery pack, offering an estimated range of 390 miles according to the WLTP cycle. The all-wheel-drive version achieves a still-respectable 368 miles of range. The Capri also supports DC fast charging, allowing you to replenish the battery from 10% to 80% in 28 minutes for the rear-wheel-drive model and 26 minutes for the all-wheel-drive variant.
Luxurious and Tech-Packed Interior
The Capri's interior is designed to be digital, minimalist, and seamlessly integrated. A wrap-around cockpit merges the instrument panel and doors into a single unit, creating a driver-focused environment. The sculpted sports seats with integrated headrests offer exceptional comfort and bolster a sense of sportiness. High-tech features abound, including a large touchscreen infotainment system, a premium sound system, and a comprehensive suite of driver-assistance technologies.
Two Trims Available
The new Capri comes in two trim levels: standard and Premium. The standard trim offers a generous array of features, while the Premium trim adds further refinement with 20-inch alloy wheels, a power-operated tailgate, a panoramic sunroof, matrix LED headlights, and a 10-speaker B&O sound system.
A New Chapter for the Ford Capri
The all-electric Ford Capri marks a new chapter for this legendary nameplate. It blends the practicality of an SUV with the performance and style of a sports car, all wrapped in a package that is both environmentally friendly and technologically advanced. While the electric Capri may not be the slinky sports car of yesteryear, it promises to be a compelling option for drivers seeking a stylish, practical, and exciting electric vehicle.
Expected Price
The pricing for the Ford Capri in the US market has not been officially announced yet. However, based on conversions from the UK pricing, the starting price for the base rear-wheel-drive model is expected to be around $45,000, with the all-wheel-drive Premium trim level reaching up to $53,000.
Availability
The Ford Capri is expected to arrive in European showrooms later this year. Information on US availability is not yet available.
