Dacia Spring: 100% electric car with 44hp and 280km of autonomy

Dacia Spring

Dacia opens a new chapter in its history, with the presentation of its first electric car: Dacia Spring. The cheapest electric car on the market offers a record interior space for its segment, a simple and reliable electric motor and a reasonable autonomy.  Although they did not give official details about the price, it is expected that the Dacia Spring electric car will cost between 15,000 and 20,000 Euros, including VAT and without subsidies.

The general design of the car is distinguished by elements specific to the crossover models: wide wheel arches, roof bars, reinforced bumpers and a raised ground clearance (15 cm).

In the passenger compartment, 4 adults sit very comfortably. The luggage compartment has the best capacity in its category with as much as 300 litres. If the rear seat is folded down, a full load capacity of 600 litres is achieved. There is also a cargo version, without a rear seat, which provides a transportable volume of 800 litres. This version, Dacia Spring Cargo, is ideal for urban deliveries.

Technical specifications:

  • Dimensions: 3.73 m length  - 1.62 m width - 1.51 m height.
  • Autonomy: 225 km WLTP -  (295 km in WLTP City)
  • Electric Engine: 33 kW / 45 hp, maximum torque 125 Nm
  • Top speed: 125 km / h
  • Battery: 26.8 kWh
  • Charging with a power of up to 6.6 kW AC (alternating current) and up to 30 kW DC (direct current)

With a turning radius of only 4.8 m, Spring Electric is very easy to manoeuvre. Parking assistant with three sensors on the rear bumper and a rearview camera are optional together with the Media Nav multimedia system. The 7-inch touch screen has navigation, DAB, Apple Carplay / Android, Bluetooth and USB. Voice recognition can be activated via a button on the steering wheel.

Charging time:

• 80% in less than 60 minutes with 30 kW DC

• 100% in less than 5 hours with 7.4 kW AC

• 100% in less than 8:30 hours with 3.7 kW AC

• 100% in less than 14 hours with 2 .3 kW domestic outlet

The car warranty will be 3 years or 100,000 km. The battery is guaranteed for 8 years or 120,000 km. Safety systems include 6 airbags, automatic braking, ABS and ESP.

Orders for the new Dacia Spring electric car will be taken over from the spring of 2021.

Dacia officials claim that the Spring model is an ideal solution for new mobility services, such as car-sharing vehicle fleets, in which the Renault Group is already involved with the largest fleet of car-sharing vehicles in Europe.

Renault City K-ZE, the electric model on which Dacia Spring is based, was launched on the Chinese market last year. It is produced by eGT New Energy Automotive, a joint venture owned by Nissan and Dongfeng of which Renault owns 25%. The same company will initially produce Dacia Spring. Renault City K-ZE is a mini crossover, with a 26.8 kWh battery.

The EU electric car market has grown steadily in recent years, reaching around 220,000 units in the first six months of 2020 - a 22% increase over the first six months of 2019.

Update no. 1: Dacia Spring has a sale price of about 17,800 euros in Hungary. Hungarian clients have already sold out all units available for pre-order.

Update no. 2: Dacia has sent to dealers the official prices at which Dacia Spring electric car can be ordered, starting this month. First published in the French press, the starting price of Dacia Spring will be 16,990 euros for the Comfort equipment version (price without any subsidies granted by the government). Dacia Spring Comfort Plus can be ordered at a price of 18490 euros.

Update no. 3 - January 2022:

In commercial leasing, the Dacia Spring electric vehicle is now available at a very reasonable price! Commercial customers can currently lease the Dacia Spring for 75.25 euros per month; this is the cheapest electric car with an SUV look on the market!.

Update no. 4 - February 2024:

The 2024 Dacia Spring is widely considered the most affordable and best value-for-money electric car on the continent, starting at just $13,000.
