Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale: A Modern Tribute to a Classic Icon

Alfa Romeo is a brand that has always been synonymous with passion, performance, and style. The Italian automaker has a rich history of producing some of the most beautiful and exciting cars ever made, such as the Giulia, the Spider, and the 8C Competizione. But perhaps the most iconic and revered model in Alfa Romeo's legacy is the 33 Stradale, a rare and exquisite sports car that debuted in 1967.

The Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale was based on the Tipo 33 race car that competed in various endurance events in the 1960s. Only 18 units were ever built, making it one of the most exclusive and sought-after Alfa Romeos of all time. The 33 Stradale was designed by Franco Scaglione, a renowned Italian car designer who also worked on the Alfa Romeo B.A.T. concept cars. The 33 Stradale featured a stunning aluminum body with flowing lines, butterfly doors, and a glass canopy. It was powered by a 2.0-liter V8 engine that produced 227 horsepower and could propel the car to a top speed of 260 km/h (162 mph).

The 33 Stradale is considered one of the most beautiful cars ever made and has inspired many other Alfa Romeo models. Now, more than half a century later, Alfa Romeo has decided to pay homage to this legendary car by creating a modern version of it: the 2024 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale.

The new Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale is a limited-edition supercar that will be handcrafted by Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera, a famous Italian coachbuilder who has collaborated with Alfa Romeo in the past. Only 33 units will be made, each tailored to its owner's preferences. The 2024 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale is based on the Maserati MC20, another supercar from the Stellantis group that owns both brands. The new 33 Stradale shares the same chassis and suspension as the MC20 but features a completely different bodywork and interior.

The original model inspires the design of the 2024 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale but also incorporates elements from Alfa Romeo's new language of style. The front end features the iconic shield-shaped grille and complex elliptical headlights. The side profile is dynamic and slender, with large air intakes on the butterfly doors. The rear end is muscular and aggressive, with a V-shaped graphic and round taillights. The body is projected forward, creating a sense of motion and speed. The car also has a large wraparound sunroof that gives the driver and passenger a panoramic view of the surroundings.

The interior of the new 33 Stradale is designed to evoke the cockpit of a jet airplane, with a minimalist and futuristic dashboard that integrates physical controls for various functions such as front-axle lift, launch control, and drive mode selector. The drive mode selector offers Strada (road) and Pista (track), which adjust the car's performance and handling characteristics. The seats are upholstered in fine leather and Alcantara, with contrasting stitching and embroidery. The steering wheel is flat-bottomed and features carbon fiber inserts and paddle shifters.
