Nissan unveils 100% electric emergency response vehicle concept designed to provide a mobile source of electricity following natural disasters or extreme weather events. Nissan RE-LEAF concept has been modified to cope with less pleasant events.

According to Nissan officials, technicians need 24 to 48 hours to put the electricity grid back into operation in areas affected by natural disasters. All this time, those affected need electricity, and the Nissan RE-LEAF prototype can be a solution.

Nissan RE-LEAF: 100% electric emergency response vehicle concept

Representatives of the Japanese manufacturer say that Nissan Re-Leaf has a two-way charging system with which it can introduce energy into the grid. The concept was equipped with two waterproof household sockets located on the body and another 220V socket inside the trunk. The manufacturer mentions that the electricity stored in the 62 kWh battery can be used to power, at the same time, a pneumatic hammer, a fan, a medical fan and an LED bulb with a power of 100 W for a period of up to 24 hours.

In order to be able to cross the streets in case of natural disasters, Nissan engineers also opted for a series of structural changes: the suspension has been replaced, additional panels have been introduced for protection, and 17-inch wheels equipped with all-terrain tire signed by BF Goodrich.

Nissan chose to mount additional lights on the ceiling, while the rear seats were replaced with a special storage compartment and a mobile desk equipped with a 32-inch screen.

This prototype was therefore created to demonstrate the potential of electric vehicles in the rehabilitation of disaster areas. Acting as a mobile power station, the latest generation of Nissan RE-LEAF e+ can provide enough electricity to power a household for six days.
