Rosenbauer Australia and the ACT government, together with the ACT Emergency Services Agency plan to jointly develop a plug-in hybrid fire engine for service operations over the next two years.
The PHEV fire truck based on the Concept Fire Truck (CFT), which was first presented in 2016, is due for service in Canberra at the end of 2022. According to the Austrian fire brigade equipment supplier, this is a completely new vehicle architecture, which is from the ground up tailored to the future needs of the fire brigades.
The partnership between the ACT government and Rosenbauer will create a fire truck that is far more environmentally friendly than our existing fire truck fleet while fully meeting the needs of the emergency response team. This is an important step that brings the metropolitan area a little closer to its climate target of net-zero gas emissions by 2045.
The "Concept Fire Truck" (CFT) from Rosenbauer was first presented to the public in 2016. The concept study anticipates the major megatrends such as global warming, demographic change and urbanization as well as the associated challenges for the fire brigades. The use of electric drives has created a completely new type of vehicle architecture that is 100% aligned with these future scenarios and sets new standards both functionally and ergonomically.
The worldwide market for novel CFT technology is estimated at around 3,200 vehicles by 2030.
